Max has got to play

Post: # 801468Post max#8 »

today we saw the frailty of our backline when the ball is brought in quickly. too many times were our backmen caught out of postion costing us goals. max is still one of the best full-backs in the league and must play finals,he is an important foundation in the back half as he rarely gets beaten over a whole game of footy. although he doesnt have the best disposal in the team his defensive efforts and ability to shut down key forwards makes him essential to our line up. let us all hope that we can get his hamstring right and ready for the finals

His history with hammies means it will be at least 3. If we lose the first two finals he will have played his last game.

If able to Max must play.

To watch Zac watch petrie take a mark then walk into goal was embarrassing

100%. Max should never have been dropped. He is such an important player. We need to remind ourselves that teams haven't been able to kick scores against us because of our excellent frontal pressure - not because of our backline. Dawson has been ok, i grant. But let's not kid ourselves, Max is far superior to him. A mistake was made this week and it caused Max to get injured.

MUST play if we get Carlton in a final...horses for courses and having Max on Fev would get into Fev's head before the ball is even bounced.

Brian Tayolr (on FOX Footy) just said he (Max) is a spiritual leader and we made a mistake to drop him. I agree with BT.

He may have done his knee had he played today. To say dropping him caused the injury is complete rubbish. His form wasnt great and zac's was better. When he is fit it may go the other way. We may find out in a couple of weeks.

Yep,Max must play in the finals so we are down to 3 interchange players. Common sense

Daryl Wakelin[ex sainter] said on SEN that he had good mail that Max's Hamstring is fine and the club were just being ultra conservative.

Will be in strong consideration for September no doubt.

There are freaks and freaks and Baldock was both of those.

Todays game was invaluable if just to highlight the fact of how valuable Max , Lenny and Luke are to the team.

You've summed it up nicely.

Zac has had two shockers in a row (I know he's the only one) and has been exposed when has to play strictly one-on-one and can't zone-off.

Dawson was absolutely woeful. Max's worst is far better than that. 20 less entries into their forward 50 means that the backline were very very ordinary

Another opportunity awaits!

in which case he'd be a strong chance this week.

Well he certainly looked like he hurt himself in the sandy game.

Max has only played 7 games this year, his first one being round 11 against North. He played in the loss against Bombers, and didn't play today. While I love Max and I do want him back in the side, we have won easily in games without him (2/3 of our games approx.), from what I've been reading Dawson seems to be singled out in our last 2 losses, and granted he didn't play his best, some of the others have been out of form as well (Fisher, Gilbert last week). I think the backline as a whole need to find form again, they can be effective with or without Max.
