Should we set a precedent??

Post: # 800482Post BakesFan »

If we win tomorrow, next weeks game against The Demons is a non-event.

Why should we risk injuring players in a game that means nothing.
What happens if we forfeit and give our players 2 weeks to rest up, fix any niggles, have 10+ hypnosis/sports phsycology sessions, and get absolutely primed for the Qualifying Final?

Will the AFL fine us?
Will The Melbourne F.C sue us because they'll get the 4 points and miss out on a priority draft pick?

This post is obviously tongue-in-cheek..O.K?? (Then again  )

nothing to be gained by going into our first final having just lost to the worst team in the competition. winning form is good form.

Exactly, don't mess with any strcutures going into finals.

If anything we should be fine tuning everything in this game, no better opportunity than against Melbourne

play our second 22.

That would be quite funny actually. I wonder if our second 22 would still beat Melbourne?

If we attempted to forfeit I'm sure Melbourne would get their paperwork in faster so that they forfeit first, we don't need the 4 points, they don't want it.

Would be a hilarious situation though would really screw up Melbourne's priority pick.

In England a county cricket team could only miss out on winning the one day cricket championship if it lost and had a poor batting run rate.
If they batted and were bowled out, all 50 overs would count reducing their season's run rate.

The county captain allowed his team to face one ball, thus commencing their innings.
He then declared their innings closed, so the other 49.5 overs did not count.
They had lost the match but their run rate remained intack.

The English Cricket Board was so outraged they disqualified the county from the competiton and awarded the champioinship to the second place county.

The AFL Commission can and would just love to do a Sirengate to St Kilda again.
They can simply ignore the rules and disqualify St Kilda from the final series for "bringing the game into disrepute".
An offence of which the present AFL administation is already allegedly guilty, having for turned a blind eye to tanking.

Think it would be better going into the finals after we belt Melbourne by a hundred plus points.
Be the best training run they could have.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Yes it worked well leaving "resting" 8 players the week before the Dons game.

Smacks of arrogance and we don't want to be like Geelong last year. We need to put in strong performances over the next 2 games to ensure that we go into the finals flying.

We also need to take it one step at a time. No need to be worrying about games that are 2 weeks away when there are games that need to be won before hand and a couple of small issues to be addressed in regards to performance after last weeks loss. The next couple of games are the perfect opportunity to do that before the finals.

Our seconds team (that played the Hawks) is in winning form.
Our Firsts (that played the Dons) is in loosing form !!!

Whatever , we need to go into the finals in winning form........with last weeks problems solved ie tackling !!!!!!!!!!

Don't actually see anyone agreeing to a rest round 22...would run the risk that they may not get back in!

That's like saying don't get out of bed for the next 2 weeks just in case you injure yourself. Just keep doing what they've been doing for the last 20 weeks

Another opportunity awaits!

I get it BF.

What if we fielded half a team against Melbourne. Top spot is locked up, points and percentage don't matter, we put 1:2 ratio on the ground and just call the rest injured, sitting on the sidelines...

Would Melbourne risk the priority pick and win?

I would play a FULL STRENGTH side against Melbourne. It gives us the perfect opportunity to get our set ups, structures & set plays working right leading into the finals !!

Totally with you. I would think baring injury whoever plays against Melbourne will just about certainly play in the first final.
