GT 'heaven forbid'...summed it up pretty well last night. Stkilda's defence rely on oppositions predictability.
We've seen it upteen times this year, sides try and work or think there way around the zone to beat our defence, and they just get strangled to death to the point they become useless. Essendon just hit and hope ,threw caution to the wind and it destroyed us. The defence looked out of there depths for the first time.....actually,the second time. Two weeks earlier against Sydney, was very similar. The SCG is a tiny ground, normal 'predictable' structures are thrown out the window. It caught us out.
One way to stop the random chaos entry is to win the contested ball. That we didn't do in either matches. However it's a worry coming into september,if the midfield get smacked, the desperate lunge spoiling and going to ground defenders such as Max,Blake and Raph will be exposed.
All sides are going to use this against us in september now,and the Dogs week one become a minor worry,as they're capable of pulling it off with class small forwards.
Let's hope the midfield play the month of there lives
Our worst back effort for the year - time for the decision.

These are the six we should pick: Jason, Zac, Steven, Raph and the two Sams. We can rotate Brendon, Jason Gram and Farren through half back to provide some respite to the others. Max will have to be our fallback rather than our fullback.
All are also good users of the ball, with the exception of Blake, who has been better than ok this year despite his poor reputation...
Max on the other hand has abysmal skills when it comes to ball handling and decision making...
There is no room for a human fist in our current backline imo... Max is nothing more than a spoiler now... If we cop an injury, he should be first in line for the call up... But in terms of 'best 22', he's 23rd...

At best you are simply a glass half empty kinda dude. At worst, but sadly most likely, you are an invertebrate.jay young wrote:Essendon were a 10 goal better side only thier injuries kept it to 2 points . could be the start of a decline for us
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Worst back effort, time to make a decision = NO.
Issues were right across the ground.
I hate to say this because I think they're a cocky bunch of slackers who switch off every other week but Essendon were the better team on the day. Their commitment to the contests was at a level I would otherwise have expected of the Saints.
Not a game to be basing any decisions on because you'd end up with all of Sandringham coming in next week.
Did Rossy tinker with roles? Has their training workload been ramped up? Midfield disrupted from a week off?
Hindsight will tell all. It's not a week to be drawing any conclusions from - yet.
