Certain in for this week

Post: # 797660Post saint patrick »

Jack Steven ...very unlucky to not have been retained and we really missed his youthful spark and energy and run around the packs today.

With CJ and Mini to come back as well Armo and Ball in real danger of being relegated ....

The battle for places will be whitehot from here to september

CJ/Mqualter both walk back in ahead of Jack Steven.

Why would you include Steven now when he hasnt been in our best side for all season?

Jones run, Mqualters fwd line pressure sorely missed.

What are you talking about?? Armo was in this week and played a piss poor game. Certain to be dropped!

we all love j steven and want him to be good. but we were 18 zip before he even debuted, so saying we "missed him" is a bit of a stretch :-).

was just one of those days. if we go in to finals 21-1 ill take it.

im already focussed on week 1 v bulldogs. the fact is the players are only human and are probably thinking the same thing ...

Bring back St Kilda A!

Give me that intensity, desperation, hunger for the ball and the man of last week, compared to some of the stuff we saw this round.

Yes Jobe smashed us today. Don't know how our tackles were broken so easily either, they seemed to brush us off too easily..

Jones and McQ-Gun straight back in.

Armo definately out.

I would keep Ball in favour of Dempster going, but who knows.

There is also the question of our 'lumpy' backline (Max, Zac, Blake...)

And -- is King in trouble for Big Mac??

I think pat said we missed his youthful spark, energy and run around packs

I agree with pat all that was missing yesterday and it would be nice to get some of that raw young enthusiasm back, whether that comes from Jack or another player it doesnt matter but we did miss some spark yesterday.

However no use looking back we must learn from yesterday and I am sure we will.

CJ and Mini are as injured as their 8 team mates were who missed against Hawthorn.

What we missed yesterday against the Bombers was not youthful spark, energy and run - though some of that would've been handy - it was the hard, first into the contest and move the ball quickly approach that has brought the team success all year. It wasn't that the Bombers were faster than the Saints yesterday, they got the ball and moved it quickly as our pressure was way down on the usual standard. Bottom line was that they were more hungry at the contest while the Saints (a bit like in Sydney) stood back fractionally and that's all it takes.

Enter CJ & Mini.

If a third player is to come in it would have to be Geary. BOG for the Zebras. Stiff to be dropped.

Bang on again YG...IMO Steven might have been a preferrable inclusion to Ball in this regard, although you'd have to lean towards Ball's experience. CJ and Mini without a doubt were sorely missed, I was very surprised they were ommitted. Unless they were suffering genuine issues, a mistake, with more than perfect hindsight...sure they'll be instant inclusions this week.

I would also like to see Gwilt back, as many others have been tried in a similar role, with not much success?

Yeah I think you are right. As much as I love him I just think his body wont let him do what he wants to do, a sad testiment to all those seasons where he was a walking add for elastoplast

i think problems were not managed correct and professionally in previous years.

kills me to say it but IMO he is in trouble (body wise, not ability wise)

yet i hope the bloke proves me 100% wrong

Surely the club wouldn't be chasing (or sealed?) a new deal with a player who is a 'filler'? Maybe Bally needs a rest this year in prep for next season, but I wouldn't discount his potential importance in a finals campaign.
