What I'm not looking forward to Grand Final Day

Post: # 794645Post 3rd generation saint »

No TAC cup Grand Final.
Having to sit through the pre match entertainment, with the esception of Walting Matilda if they revive that.

Grand Final day use to be great when you had the U19's/Tac Cup Final followed by the Reserves Grand Final, those games, especially if they we're good close games really set the mood for the start of the Grand Final.

Listening to some musical act that I'm not all that interested in doesn't.

Of course, I am looking forward too putting up with the AFL's drab attempts too entertain because if I am putting up with it is due to me there too watch The Saints play off for the premiership.

For that privilege they can bring Angry Anderson back.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

As long as we are there and things go well I'll put up with anything beforehand or at half time.

I don't know how I'm going to get through the nerves of the next two months.

What I'm not looking forward to is if we don't make it.

Let's get there first.

I think there will still be curtain-raiser(s). Last year they played two under-16 matches beforehand; the finals of the National Championships.

Erm, can't we get there first before worrying about the symantics?

Essendon this week.

That's all.

Don't pretend you haven't thought about it.

Nobody actually takes it one week at a time. It's impossible not to get caught up in it all.

That's just something clubs say to make it seem like they're totally focused on the job at hand, which I'm sure they are.

However, not a day would go by when one of our players doesn't drift away for just a moment to picture them self having their name called out to receive their medallion and then holding aloft the premiership cup. And then it's back to business and Essendon on Sunday arvo.

We've all thought about it.

If we were taking it one week at a time, Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Goddard, Montagna etc etc would've played against Hawthorn.

Dare to dream, as they say. :D

Of course I've thought about it - as I did last year and in 04-06 - but dreaming will get us nowhere.

Doing the business - week in, week out - just might.

The players have been bitten too many times before to lose focus. Fans should be the same.

We've got an Essendon team this week that gave us a red-hot match last time and need to win to make the eight.

With competition for spots incredibly hot right now, it's a good time for the club to register an important victory.

For the chance to possibly see the saints claim the cup,

I'd sit there for two hours happily watching the grass grow.

Supporters dreaming about glory won't get us there, that said supporters not dreaming won't get us there either.

By all means the players have to worry about this week and this week only but us supporters can enjoy every minute of the ride and muse on where it may take us. At the end of the day whether we a supporter group are sour pusses or dreamers the result on the weekend won't be affected.

People used to queue overnight for tickets, and then were subjected to marching girls and police dogs jumping through hoops as prematch entertainment. Actually, only the dogs jumped through the hoops.

We've never had it so good.

Ah the good old days. Being a kid back then I actually found the whole sleep out thing a great adventure. How good were our parents they would leave us kids and our older cousins to sleep the night outside moorabbin.

Vividly remember the neighbours complaining as fellow queuee's were ripping their fence palings off to fuel the many fires burning around the ground.

Would do it all again to see us there again this year.

I am quite bemused that people could find a negative with something so fantastic.

Step 1 - Get to Grand Final
Step 2 - Enjoy the build up and all that goes with it.
Step 3 - What ever the result deal with it when it happens

I don't care if its the bloody Wiggles. It will sound like Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" if I'm sitting there.
