The Invincibles?

Post: # 794436Post sainta »

ESSENDON will go into battle against the St Kilda invincibles on Sunday believing it can win.

--------------------

The article is mainly about the Dons but is that a new nickname heading for us if we become the undefeated champs?

Just doing some quick research we'd get to join in with these other Invincibles:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Invincibles

No, not getting ahead of myself but found the reference interesting.

No doubt it will be the name of the season highlight dvd, if it indeed comes to pass.

It will also be over any number of memoribillia pieces.

It woud definitely be an almighty achievement, especially when you consider it still seems inconeivable 76% of the way in.

Exciting times no doubt but a lot of OTT stuff being churned out by journos looking to better their competitors and make a story for themselves.

Perhaps there should be a Sainta clause in the rulez to spare us from this stuff time and again until we inevitably drop one.

Though did find the wikipedia Invincibles mentioned quite interesting particularly Die Sieger starring Katja Flint who also paid homage to the Bombers success with her 2000 classic... :D

Lid on!!

Graceful, elusive, strong overhead and no Easybeat!

Wikipedia is often incomplete in its disambiguations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essendon_F ... 99-2001.29

The word is being bandied about because it was last in popular use in AFL to describe the Essendon 99-01 side. And because St. Kilda is about to equal Essendon's 2000 home-and-away run, the inference is that the crown is about to be passed over.

Good to see Arsenal's 2003-04 season on that wiki page. 38 games without a loss was a good season : 8-)
If the Saints can do it this year my 2 football clubs will both have had unbeaten seasons in the last 5 years. Awesome!

You're not the bloke who used to have the sp*rs avatar are you? That'd explain it! Hopefully the Saints can go one better and win 50 in a row, 2 flags guaranteed right there!

Can't be bothered looking it up cos it's a s*** sport, but how many were draws in that "without a loss" season?

And incredibly, yawn, exciting 0-0 or 1-1 draws?

12 draws, 26 wins.
4 were 0-0.
A great achievement no matter what your opinion is of the sport.

I have '49 the complete unbeaten run' on me, wanna borrow it? I promise it only has goals and brief highlights!
'The untouchables' might have a bit too much extra content for you to handle :P

Are you from N4, Saint_Gooner?! Leeds fan myself, but lived with some Gooners about 10m from the Arsenal Tavern on Blackstock Rd for a few years. Good craic on matchdays!

Currently in Hamburg, so I expect you all to be cheering for the lads in September on my behalf!

Cheers,

Sawf

Invincibles this, invincibles that, blah, blah, blah...watch the media jump up and down on us like an old Coke can if we lose a game at any stage this year.

Wouldn't want any comparisons between the Saints and the Woolwich Arsenal so how about:

The Indomitable Saints.

The Untouchables.

If I had my way the DVD would be entitled: "The Perfect Season." \o/

I hear we'll be recruiting Elliot Ness next year, that should make Al Capone and the rest of Carlton's management nervous.
