No Credit From the Media
All year I think the media have been waiting for us to fall over & we haven't.
Last weekend, they (media) pretty much said the Saints were missing the same amount of players that the Hawks were missing, however, one key point that was not discussed was the fact that the Hawks had so much more to play for than we did.
This can not be under estimated.
The win considering the Hawks season was on the line was even better for us.
About time we got the proper credit, then again we haben't beaten anyone above us...

Personally, I think if they jumped on us anymore the bandwagon would collapse in a heap. There's a suitable amount of awe in all voices when they mention us - that's enough for me. To cheer yourself up, read Gary Lyon's piece in the Age today.
"He spoke of his stride, his power and his willingness to push himself to exhaustion. All of the things that are on display each weekend in the No 12 jumper" Garry Lyon

I was absolutely delighted for St Kilda to hardly rate a mention during On The Couch on Monday night. Seems we've gone full circle to a degree. The dismissive anti-Lyon window closing stuff (iethere's nothing much to talk about dow at St K), then the surprise at a few strong wins, then the fragile recognition that we may keep winning, to the general notion that 'surely they;ll fall over soon enough', to now which seems to be 'we've run out of angles'.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

That's true plugger, it's just that if we were Carlton or Collingwood, the media bandwagon would have been a monster a lot earlier and the media failed to recognise the significance in what Hawthorn were playing for.plugger66 wrote:I think papers should have to write at least 2 pages a day on us. We certainly arent getting enough publicity. And if we do win 22 in a row I doubt they will even mention it.
Is this the 1st time a Premier has missed out on the 8 in the following season?
I know we missed out on the 4 in 1967, but not sure there has been a bigger fall from grace, which makes our win even more significant.

They finished 13th... hard to believe there's a worse defending premier than last year's, but there you have it.degruch wrote:Crows in 1999.SaintWodonga wrote:Is this the 1st time a Premier has missed out on the 8 in the following season?

I suppose the thing that shouldnt upset them is the word defending champion.InkerSaint wrote:They finished 13th... hard to believe there's a worse defending premier than last year's, but there you have it.degruch wrote:Crows in 1999.SaintWodonga wrote:Is this the 1st time a Premier has missed out on the 8 in the following season?

While I wouldn't underestimate their ability to fail, it would take North Melbourne beating St. Kilda among a raft of other outcomes for them to make 13th. It's a small mercy for them that the Kangas play West Coast this round. They can't both take the 4 points.degruch wrote:There's time for the Dawks yet.InkerSaint wrote:They finished 13th... hard to believe there's a worse defending premier than last year's, but there you have it.

"The entire media is contemplating out loud that we can go through the year undefeated "
Somehow I am not convinced by media , they are reluctantly facing facts ... it could just happen.
BUT , a 'new season' starts once the Finals begin. Then we find out if Geelong are playing games and if Collingwood can stand our style of game' etc .
Now is the calm before the storm....

...interestingly sheahan still backed us to win whilst the golden boy...who incidentally said that he wasn't going to tip against us again for the rest of the season...did just that......

I must be reading different articles to everyone else because I am finding an appropriate amount of positive media for St Kilda. I thought things like "Saints are flying" "Look likely to go through the season undefeated" and "Invincibles" would be considered positive. You'll get an article on Saints when something interesting happens, but they can't just write everyday "Saints are 19-0". We get articles after training sessions, games, press conferences etc. just like everybody else, unless like I said earlier, something interesting happens down at Moorabbin. And if there are some media personalities out there stating that "St Kilda will fall", that's ok, that's their opinion, right or wrong, it's what they're paid to do. I think people should just relax, enjoy where we are at, wait nervously for the finals campaign to start, and stop illustrating St Kilda as a hard done by team, rather illustrate them as a hard to come by team.

Then there's The Australian, which I can't be bothered looking at...throw in all the stuff Caro did pre-season with us...then add all the TV and radio coverage...plus the mX. Not to mention saints.com.au.
Yet the whingers are still piping up, even though we're not even at the finals and have had one of the most exciting and news-filled seasons in years.
Bewildering, but then...knowing our fans...too much happy-fluff pieces are never enough.
