King or Big Mac?

Post: # 793464Post steph »

I believe McEvoy is on the rapid improve, he seems to do more and more each week - he contests adequately in the ruck, gets a lot of link up touches around the ground, tackles a lot for a big man, and has a great pair of hands up forward.

King obviously has the experience (particularly finals) behind him.

Would be interested to hear people's thoughts on who should be back-up ruckman to Gardiner.

King.....

Big Mac has been good, but King's been there, simple.

Understand experience is important, but i dont think you can put it down to that only.

Dempster has been there also, does that mean he is an automatic selection?

IMO, form is more important than whether you've been there before or not.

King for this season. Mac is still learning the game. He lacked a bit of pace late in the game. I know King isn't the fastest going around either but his experience would be invaluable.

Lets not overstate things...while Big Ben is looking good around the ground and he is improving, his ruckwork is not at all good.

Against the Hawks he playeda pretty fair game asa key forward...not asa ruckman.

But Roo and Kosi are better key forward options.

Simple is it , i dont think so , yes Ben may not be as good in the ruck yet but his movement and marking around the ground is far better than Kingy , he also gives you more options during the game if we lost Roo or Kozi , so what if kingy has been there done that , what a stupid thing to say , so Ben comes out and rips a game apart ( not saying he will ) and you still want to play Kingy because he played in a team that won the flag , do you think everyone who has playing in a flag winning team is a champion ?
Ps , name the great ruckmen that we will be comming up against during the finals , and remember that fantastic ruckman who won us the game against Hawthorn last year , yes Blake and he is 6, 3 but creates a contest ,
This is not a slag on you or King but for mine id prefer a ruckman who can do more than get a tap , as most of the sides we will be facing wont have two champion ruckmen.

If most sides won't be having 2 champion ruckmen i see this as a great opportunity to use king and gardy and have the upper hand at clearances.

This season has been a fantastic learning curve for Mac.

IMO he is still behind both Gardi & King for a spot. Especially in a final.

But jeez he's been good. Or really, this year has been good for him.

One of the key things about Mac is how good he is below his knees. He has a bright future in my opinion. Getting the games into him this season will prove to be very valueable in the coming years.

I'd be 99.9% sure King will be the ruckman in this years finals series this year but i also dont think there should be any need for Kingy to be at the club next season. harsh call I know and it looks like he will play but I would think Ben will be ready to go full time next season and with King and MG there he may not be able to.

People are being harsh on King, I think he has been working really hard in recent weeks and it's been evident on the field. It also took alot of courage to go back onto the field after dislocating his shoulder against Sydney, and to then back it up with another solid performance this week. If anyone deserved a rest for a niggle....but this guy is tough, hungry, and above all experienced.

if looked at the paper in recent weeks, taking an interest in the hitouts
we are always beaten in hitouts,
but big ben never gets in there,
did not have one single hit out to advantage on the weekend.
king for sure.

Pretty much agree completely. Did I read that the club is already looking to sign him up for next year? Don't see why they'd be rushing to do that. He's just hanging on to his spot at the moment, I reckon and I sincerely hope Mac will be well ahead of him by next year. I thought they might try to recruit someone who's on the fringe at another club to be back-up to Gardi and Mac. Someone that's going to be more able to get around the ground.
If Kingy's right shoulder is giving him trouble at the moment I'd give him a week off this week for sure (as long as Roo and Kosi play). We need him more in the finals than we do this week (especially with them having Ryder).

Another point about Kingy that has been missed is that not only is he experienced in GF's but also look at his leadership around the ground as well as offthe ground. King will add more in finals.

King definitely due to body size. Players need protectionin finals from the big guys, King can do that.

Alves cost us 1997 by among other things not protecting Harvey off the square and not nailling any crow players, who were renound for not being hard.

We cannot let someone clean up a Dal, Monty or Hayes. We need the big body
