Not saying anything about Lyon, he has done everything right so far...just might have been an idea to "rest" them over a few weeks, rather than all at once...
Maybe i just want to finish on top....without a loss, so find it a little annoying.
Anyway, I won't complain, I do have complete faith in those running the show.
And if we get up, will be a great win!

I think Lyon is slightly hypocritical now. Although the footballing world took Ross' comment out of context (in reguard to geelong resting), as it was more a general word about 'resting' that it was aimed at geelong, with our current outs, hmmm.
I'd concede that Roo and Montagna are legit, but when I saw Hayes, Bj and Bakes . Though Ross is a smart man, and doing the right thing.
Biggest worry is, with all these outs, there is going to be a lot of in's during the next few weeks, which goes against the trend of our selection policy all year, and may muck around with the stability in the team we have created.

Gonna be tough so let's see what this makeshift group's got...not sure the Hawks were that woeful last week. They were in it most of the way at AAMI against Schizo Adelaide and if they (read Buddy) had kicked straight the result would have been very different. Having said that, the Hawks record at Aurora this year is average and on paper they look the worst that I've seen for maybe a few seasons.St. Luke wrote:We've still got plenty of class in there. I haven't written us off in the least. The Hawks were woeful last week and the team we're feilding on Saturday would have wiped the floor with Port! Makes for a very interesting game!
Graceful, elusive, strong overhead and no Easybeat!

While the plan has changed, it's still disrespectful.samoht wrote:I think Lyon said back then (re: Geelong's decision to rest a few) it's disrespectul and implied we wouldn't contemplate doing the same "at this time" - i.e. with 8 games left and Adelaide and the Bulldogs and Essendon etc.. still possibly challenging for the top spots.
Now that our top 2 position is secured and with only 4 games left - why not ?
Lyon is consistent if you allow for and take into account his "at this time" quote at the tail end of what he said,
Really messing with the heads of the Hawks fans I work with, they've gone from having everything to win with no shame in a loss to needing desperately to win, and extremely worried about a loss.
(up to) 7 changes, how bizarre can one game get? The Saints appear to have declared a 2nd split round.

Yes, but he DIDN'T kick straight as he couldn't take the pressure. Port's defence is nowhere near as good as ours so what makes you think he is a certainty to kick straight this week (if he manages to get the ball in his hands that is)?Young Georgie wrote:Gonna be tough so let's see what this makeshift group's got...not sure the Hawks were that woeful last week. Can't win with some supporters. You want to win the flag, but you don't want to see any measures implemented that may help this cause?BAM! Besides, a lot of the big name players were flat this week. Would rather they rested them and put players in who are desperate for a spot in the team. I can assure you, the likes of Bally, Geary and Armitage will not be playing on 4 cylinders. They will have all EIGHT cylinders firing.......

I hope you're right. With Joey, Lenny and Dal out of midfield just how quickly is that ball going to fly into their forward line and with Chips and Gilbo out just how are we going to contain one of the most potent forward lines in the comp?saint75 wrote:Yes, but he DIDN'T kick straight as he couldn't take the pressure. The ball came pretty quickly out of the centre to the Swans forwards last week and our defence was under pressure and made mistakes. Let's hope the wind and rain help sink Buddy and the Hawks campaign.

Does anyone remember that match against hawthorn a couple of years ago, we went into the match with a few changes and then X and Gram were late withdrawls... I seem to recall it being the worst game of all time...
This could be a repeat, in worse conditions
Armo always seems to get brought in for these sorts of games, no wonder RL doesn't rate him he only sees him play the most lacklustre matches...

From the world of useless stats, this will be Armo's 4th game against Hawthorn in 17 games. He's never played against Adelaide, Brisbane or Sydney. I'd love to say he's a Hawthorn specialist, but he only averages 7 touches a game against them and only had 4 against the in last year's PF. Hopefully he's ready for a blinder, because we'll need it.Armoooo wrote:Armo always seems to get brought in for these sorts of games, no wonder RL doesn't rate him he only sees him play the most lacklustre matches...

You do well to listen young man!
It could well transpire (a long way ahead) that St Kilda is setting a pattern for other clubs to mimic in future years.
Already there is clear evidence that some are trying to, or have, copied our game style. Now this idea of resting certain players will be copied as well by clubs certain, repeat certain, of a top finish.
Another feather in the cap ?

So Fisher has been confirmed out, but NDS will play...is that the latest?
UPDATE 2:53pm: TODAY'S withdrawal of a sixth high-profile Saint from tomorrow's match has seen bookies hit by a record plunge.
It was rumoured in football circles today that onballer Nick Dal Santo and backman Sam Fisher were in doubt for tomorrow's clash with Hawthorn in Launceston, causing TAB Sportsbet to suspend betting for the second time in 24 hours.
Saints Ross Lyon coach said at the airport today that Fisher would definitely miss, but that he expected Dal Santo to play.
