NEW RULE REGARDING POSTING ARTICLES FROM OTHER SITES
Over the last few days there has been some informal discussion on here about the correct protocol / laws for re-posting articles from other websites.
I’ve done some research on this and came to the following conclusions..
1. MANY other Forums do not allow posting of complete articles from other sites
2. All newspaper sites seem to have a blanket ban on reposting...for instance the Age site states ...You may not use any Material on the Fairfax Network to establish, maintain or provide, or assist in establishing, maintaining or providing your own publications, Internet site or other means of distribution. ...including even the author and URL is irrelevant it seems
3. There is a grey area is regard to "research" but its just that..very grey
4. The Forum has received several requests in the past to ask posters not to post entire articles from saints.com.au. after complaints from sponsors who had bought advertising space on the site. All other sites are I'm sure as protective of their advertising revenue, especially newspaper sites that still (so far!!) let you read the content for free
So...taking all of the above into consideration, the mods /admin have decided to adopt a new Forum rule, effective immediately, for posting articles from other sites.
"When posting articles from any other website, please only post the URL (link to original article) and no more than the first paragraph
This rule is widely in place on other Forums and is fair without being draconian. The other advantage will be to keep thread sizes down, as it will stop not only large articles being posted in full, but also people endlessly requoting those large articles in their own post.
Whilst this rule applies immediately, there will be an amnesty period as everyone adjusts to the new rule. Once everyone is used to it however, a breach will result in a informal warning..with any further breaches resulting in a formal warning.
Effectively immediately however, the mods and admins reserve the right to delete extra parts of articles incorrectly fully posted.
Thanks in advance for your co-operation!!
