Omissions, Inclusions....the debate continues...

Post: # 782617Post kaos theory »

We have these players on the sidelines and looking to get into the team before the finals to try to secure a regular spot:
- Kosi
- Gardiner
- Ball
- Dawson
- Geary
- Armo
- Goose
- Miles

Some of these are certain to get back in soon, while others are going to find it harder. There are other up & coming young players (e.g. Lynch & Stevens), but highly unlikely to see these guys get a shot this year.

So who comes in, who goes out, and what is our top 22?

Here is the round 17 team:
B: Jason Blake, Max Hudghton, Raphael Clarke
HB: Steven Baker, Sam Gilbert, Farren Ray
C: Brendon Goddard, Andrew McQualter, Leigh Montagna
HF: Jason Gram, Sam Fisher, Robert Eddy
F: Clint Jones, Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne
Foll: Steven King, Lenny Hayes, Nick Dal Santo
I/C: Sean Dempster, James Gwilt, Ben McEvoy, Adam Schneider
Emg: Jarryn Geary, Luke Miles, Matt Maguire

Kosi and Gards are locks.

Ball & Dawson will come if for; Ball (Form) & Dawson (Injury)

I think McEvoy will be omitted for Gards & Eddy for Kosi.

who comes in is obvious who goes out not so.

Miles is not chance this year.
Goose is a roughy
Armo even rougher

Certain:
- Gardi
- Kosi

Good chance:
- Ball
- Dawson

Outs:
- Mcevoy (Gardi)
- Gwilt (Kosi)
- Eddy (Ball, assuming Ball lifts his game)

Dawson & Maxy in same team is too top heavy imo. So, tough one here...

I would like to see Geary get back to his mid/early season form. His skill & pace was handy, but he needs to lift and perform in pressure games (like the cats game).

Also keen on Armo get a game, but form needs to be there...

They played well lastnight, if they continue to play well, they will remain in the side.

Kosi and GardI are both automatic ins.

Zac based on his season I believe will be that too...though he is not as important as Gardi and Kosi who are VITAL to our hopes of winning the flag.

Ball on..one would expeact will EARN his spot back, but is not by any measure an automatic in. One factor counting against Luke is even if he regains he midfield aspects that Lyon wants that ball's goal kicking abilty is not good.

Geary: Is to me in the mix with Eddy, Raph and Dempster. as many as 3 may make it..or even none (if everyone else is fit and in-form).

Goose: With Zac, Blake and Max all in good form Gose will havea hard task to make it even if Lyon gives hima cameo game to get his 100th up. Goose seems to be limited to CHB..but does not have the run of eother Gilbert or Sam. Asa key forward..with Kosi being cumbersome it limits the ability to play another there who cannot apply the forward pressure that Lyon wants our forward line too.

Miles: Baker is back in town with two superb games. Max is back too..and Blake in fair form. This means no room to play Miles who has not even been trialled yet. I don't see Lyon debuting players in the finals this year.

Dempster: Is a versatile player. at present Lyon looks like he is trying to develop him into the "missing" medium forward. Lyon loves versatile players...so if Dempster can embrace this Lyon will find it pleasing because it also gives him another tagging option in the team as well as someone that can be swung back to defence.

Gwilt: If all our other players are available I think Gwilt will get squeezed out. In particular if Dempster can out-perform Gwilt as a "third" forward.

Big Ben: Has steadily improved during his run in the seniors. Is not yet as good as Gardi or King..but it is pleasing to know that we have a competent No2 ruck waiting in the wings should gardi or King go down.

However at present IMO Gardi is well above King in value.

Not so sure about Zac. May have chosen the worst time possible to get himself suspended. I would play Max against Buddy in 2 weeks time. If he beats buddy whilst buddy is in this sort of form, then I reckon he'll have secured his spot.

What I love about the team is that there is genuine pressure on established blokes to play well. King knows he better lift his game to another level, as Macca is breathing down his neck. Ball has already found this out. Now Max knows that he needs to go at 100mph to secure his spot as Zac virtually has it at the moment.

All great signs.

Looks like geary played well with sandy...As said above, I would like to see him come in.

Therefore, I would like to see:
Gardnider - for Mcevoy
Kosi - for Gwilt
Geary - for Eddy

But, given RL's desire for few changes as possible, probably just the first two this week.
