Dermie was right
Glen Jackovic should not commentate on West Coast games.
He is the special comments man but only comments on the West Coast players and their position/perspective.
He is very quick to make comment after a West Coast goal and then is silent after a Saints goal.

Re: Dermie was right
That's almost better than BT virtually barracking for WCE the whole game instead of commentating.Goose is king wrote:Glen Jackovic should not commentate on West Coast games.

So much so that he contiunually called us either Eagles or Geelong.

I almost expected Jackovich to out and out cheer once or twice. Taylor (who barracked all day aswell) even said "your side" a couple of times in questions to Jackovich.
Absolute turkey who should NEVER commentate (or "cheerlead" as was just about the case) West Coast games.

Why does it matter. The game was live turn the sound off and put the radio on. I would think it shows the respect for us because they know how good we are and they are hoping for an upset.

Terrible lack of professionalism...
One time we were 11 points up yet BT stated that the eagles were winning by 12 points, they suggested that Wirrpanda move up front to try and stretch the Geelong defence...
They were trying to create a story about us suffering a let down from last week, they were hoping for it from before the opening bounce.

They all still picked us to win at 3/4 time when the scores were level. So they must rate us.
I reckon it's amusing that the forum will vent their frustrations about our performance, certain players, but if commentators don't talk favourably about us we all go crook?
I'm very confident they would have been got just as excited if it was the cats playing in our place and could only manage to keep a 1-2 goal buffer. Let's face it we were playing ordinary - and they could sense a huge upset. WC are a bottom team and we are undefeated. Almost a compliment to us I reckon.

Thankfully, I haven't heard BT commentate for a long time...he's always been woeful, biased, and seemingly watching another game. I'm not surprised he was crap today, from all accounts (having not heard it).savatage wrote:I was surprised with BT's commentary...I know he was trying to add some spice/excitement to the call - but he was terribly annoying today!

To all those who would say that it doesn't matter or that we should move on, I would say it does matter. It is an issue that concerns the fundamental tenets of what it means to be a professional. Listen to commentary from any other sport, EPL in England, NFL, MLB or Basketball in the States; the commentators are never biased and certainly do not barrack as BT did today. Nowhere else in the world do you have ex-players as commentators. They are only used as special comments people. Everywhere else, professional broadcasters are used.
The larger issue is the incestuous nature of being involved in any dimension of AFL, from administration to the media. It is jobs by the boys for the boys.

i actually dont mind him calling usually
when Gehrig used to play BT loved it, because he could say "the big G train extends the dukes!"....
today he did seem a tad biased, BUT did say all match that he was sticking with a saints win

Glen Jackass had no hope of providing special comments on St Kilda's play.aussierules0k wrote:Get used to it. We are now the hunted... enjoy!
It is not his fault he simply does not have the IQ to understand the way St Kilda plays.
