The PERFECT Season - 7 wins to go and counting down
As per the consecutive wins data in the 2009 Milestones post ...
http://www.saintsational.com/forum/view ... 4&start=56
NO-ONE has EVER won EVERY game in a season, from R1 to the GF.
Some have gone close, only dropping one, but NO-ONE has done it - YET.
We have the chance to make history and have the PERFECT season.
That would stamp our team in 2009 as having had the greatest season by any team ever.
Sorry if I am getting a little bit ahead of myself but our remaining 8 H&A games now all look winnable.
The Bulldogs will be the biggest challenge and we should build it up as another mini-final.
Hawthorn in Tassie was shaping up as a probable loss but they have seriously dropped away.
R15 WCE Away
R16 Adel Home
R17 Bulldogs Home (Danger game)
R18 Sydney Away
R19 Hawth Away (Tas)
R20 Essendon Away (Semi-danger)
R21 North Home
R22 Melb Away
Then most likely we will play Collingwood in week 1 of the finals.
Then most likely the Bulldogs in the Prelim.
And then Geelong in the GF to complete the PERFECT Season.
25 wins - an alltime record and the first PERFECT season.
History awaits.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

Can we just win a GF, I honestly don't give a s*** about records atm.
But yes it would be nice, and there was a good post by a Dons supporter on BF about how ironic it would be for the least successful team in the history of the game to have the greatest ever single season team. Would be nice, but I'd rather lose one along the way and take the flag easily then go into the GF undefeated and lose it...

Haha, this makes me feel ill just thinking about it.
I'm thinking it's better if we drop a game somewhere along the line because we don't need the added pressure of completing a perfect season as well as winning a premiership.
Imagine our only loss of the year coming in a grand final. Losing a grand final is hard enough but that would make it even worse if that's even possible.
Having said that, if we did go an entire season undefeated we could certainly argue that the Saints of 2009 are the greatest side of all time.

Hoping for a perfect season is unnecessarily wasteful wishing.
I only care about GF's - being in 'em and winning 'em.
A few things:
WC at Subiaco play great - we will be rooted - we lost there last year -they will be desperate to atone for a pathetic capitulation to the cellar dweller Demons - DANGER written all over it despite on paper St Kilda superiority.
Adelaide - red hot - due to beat us - week after Subiaco - physical side - at Etihad of course, but even so...no monty...
WB's - red hot - due to beat us - desperate to beat someone good, partic if they drop game to pies on Friday night - week after a potential bruiser against Adelaide.
Add to that an away game to freezing goddam Antarctic Tasmania plus a what may be a season defining game for Essendon when we meet them down the line...
Next three are anyones IMO.
The other are well and truly up for grabs.
We have had our little tummies tickled by a win against the Cats, but jesus we cannot stop now...
Three biggest rounds of the year coming up.
I am more nervous going west this week than I was last Sunday...
Business end of the year now, lads...

I'd love to do it but as long as we win the flag this year, that's enough to make me happy. Win the flag first and then go for the perfect season next year... I don't even care if we have a hangover like Hawthorn did this year - I just want a goddam flag. Seriously, is that too much to ask? Does that make me greedy?
Continuing to play our brand of football in an uncomprimising fashion is more important than winning every single game.
Most pleasing part of the Geelong win was that there were no herculian efforts by individuals, but a very even performance by nearly every player on the ground. They beleived in the game plan and structures, stuck to them and executed well. The preassure we were able to put on the bench mark team in the competition was unrelenting and to be honest I was almost surprised that we were able to rely on the same tactics that have served us so well all year to be beat the cats, I know I shouldnt have been as it is the very thing that we needed to do and in reality it was the only way that the improvement in the side could be vindicated against the best.
If we can continue to apply relentless preassure and execute our game and intensity every week then we are a chance to have a perfect season and win the flag even if we dont win every game.

After our energy sapping wins of the last 2 weeks I'll be pleased and
surprised if we win the next 2 against the Crows and Dogs.
In the scheme of things " ultimate prize a flag" a loss or even two in the
next fortnight won't be the end of the world however it is a distinct
possibility.
Having said that what sainter wouldn't love the perfect season ?

There's a good reason why sides don't go undefeated throughout a season.
That game just finished is part of the reason.
When you can play only 10-15 minutes of good footy and still manage to win games, I don't see how complacency cannot enter your mind.
Surely there will come a time when the other side get a run on and we won't be able to muster that 10-15 mins. Momentum is a powerful thing in this game and at times it can be impossible to turn no matter how good you are, or how bad the opposition.
Either way, as long as we're switched on for the whole four quarters when it really matters in September, that's all that really matters I guess.

Been thinking about whether its right to think about this - long and hard ..
Everyone is saying 'you have to lose a game on the way to GF ... you have to this and that ..'
Everyone was saying 'its good for Geelong to lose against Saints' - well they may have believed their own press a bit too much and now look whats happened to them, 2 losses in a row looking shaky while we power on ..
No reason at all we can't create history - records are meant to be broken !
