Lynch is demanding a spot in the team at the moment, wouldn't hurt to give him a couple of games in the next month...

Spoke to Tom, he is a very upbeat boy at the moment. ATM i is great to see a team that has players dominating the 2's and they can't fit into the 1's.

It i s a well known fact that Tom is a quality Utility player. He could easlily slot in for a foward or a defender.

Keep it up Tom, your due :D :D :D

Agree second best for for a rookie player is a great effort. Hopefully get on the main list next year.

I have nearly lost hope of Goose playing in the 1's and have come to accept it but if anyone was there how did he go.

Lynch is a clever player.......not quick, not silky, not classy but he works and presents and is very footy smart.

Simpkin is a medium 6'1" defender who plays taller than that (had the 187cm C.Bryan today).........he has shown a fair bit all year....

Goose won a lot of the footy.......was OK.....beaten by Chris Dawes overall....in a good contest. He is a bit slow.

Tom Simpkin is listed as 191cm, same as Max Hudghton and Sam Fisher.
Both Max and Sam started their AFL careers on the half back flank before moving to key positions.
They are both regularly outreached by their taller opponents but have the advantage of superior mobility.
Simpkin joins a long list of players vying for a half back flank at St Kilda.

Nathan Brown gives Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse plenty to think about
Chris Mitchell | July 13, 2009 12:00am

COLLINGWOOD coach Mick Malthouse faces a tough selection decision with Nathan Brown after the young defender's commanding performance in the VFL. Brown, who has played 13 AFL games this season, was dropped for Friday night's Western Bulldogs clash, but is a strong chance to play against Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday night.

The 20-year-old restricted VFL legend Nick Sautner, who had the flu mid-week, to two goals and eight disposals in Collingwood's 25-point win against Sandringham at Trevor Barker Oval.

With Malthouse and Magpies skipper Nick Maxwell watching, Brown's early disposal by foot was sloppy but improved as he racked up nine kicks, 10 handballs and seven marks to put his hand up for inclusion.

"I thought he was almost our best player. Not only did he spoil down there and contest, but he took a lot of marks and was really pleasing," Collingwood coach Gavin Brown said.

The fifth-placed Magpies (7-5), who trail fourth-placed Casey Scorpions by percentage, kept the Zebras to just one point in the final quarter.

But the script could have been different had Sandringham taken advantage of a significant momentum switch.

Trailing by 40 points at halftime, Sandringham booted 6.5 to 1.1 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to a straight kick at the last change.

"That last quarter we asked for a bit of a steely resolve and I thought we got it," Brown said.

For the Zebras, St Kilda-listed forward Tom Lynch, yet to debut after being drafted with pick No. 13 in last year's national draft, booted four goals from 15 disposals.

Young St Kilda midfielder David Armitage was rested after suffering concussion last week against Port Melbourne.

The loss dropped Sandringham (5-7) to 10th.
