Ross hints at a debut...

Post: # 764481Post thirty-seven!? »

In a post-match interview, Ross hints that there may be a chance of a debut in the coming weeks, and also admits that Max may miss the Cats clash:

“We’ve got plenty of players putting on performances, of which Matt is one of them. We’ve spoken about Matt a lot. We’ll get to selection this week at the right time. We’ll assess our options and we’ll pick the team we think can best compete against Geelong,â€

Unless I'm very much mistaken I recall Jimmy Gwilt playing an impressive game on debut against Port in the finals...so why not?

Close. James played his second game in a final against Adelaide in 2005.

You are very much mistaken; Gwilt debuted against Brisbane in Round 22.

Didn't hear the press conference, but is it possible the media was leading Ross down the Goose direction?

Didn't see any. Many very tired players though, which is always very nice to see. Been a hallmark of performance this year.

If there is to be a debut soon it will be either Jack Steven or Tom Lynch IMHO !!

I hope if Max doesn't play they bring in Goose give him a go see how he stands up in the biggest game of our season so far.

Would love to see Goose in - but against the cats he'd have to exceed expectations for someone out for so long (and curious as to who he'd take, and position he would play) - if dempster is fit enough he'd probably be the better inclusion against the cats.
If goose can go on to fulfill the potential we all saw in earlier years he'll be a crucial part of our drive to a premiership.

I thought we were a bit top heavy so I dont see what role Goose would have if he played. That would give us a backline of Dawson, Baker, Blake, Fisher, Goose and Gilbert. Far to slow for the forwards of the Cats which are Mooney, Hawkins, Chapman, Varcoe, Johnson and Byrnes. If someone can prove Goose in the side will get all those match ups right then fair enough but I cannot see how it is possible.

I would love that too, however I think he might be overlooked for Dempster.

To bring Goose in againt a side like Geelong could go one way or the other , if he has a good game he will probably cement a spot in the 22 but if he gets towelled up he will find it hard to get another gig. I think Goose will get his chance but I dont think this is the right game to see if he is ready for the rigors of afl footy but its only imo

I think Ross says a lot of things like that just to keep them motivated, without really believing that it will happen. Otherwise many of them will just see this year in the VFL as a long one, with no hope of playing AFL any time soon- which they won't be, if match committee continue with their current selection policies.
I really wish he'd just be totally honest and that the club would cut out the lies and BS, like earlier in the week seemed to be, when they said the players weren't going to the beach for a rehab session, when they clearly did. We don't need to stoop to this sort of crap.
