Selection POOR!
For the Richmond game......
Starting 5 Key defenders down back was ridiculous.....Max found himself on a HBF playing on R.Nahas at one stage.....and they COULD NOT get the match-ups right due to NO flexibility in the First Q.
Zac had NO match-up because they played NO key fwd so he played as a spare.....
S.Fisher 192, S.Gilbert 194, M.Hudghton 191, J.Blake 191, Z.Dawson 195.
Whilst Baker takes a small.
Gilbert started fwd.....but that lasted two minutes and he went back
When Hudghton was injured it actually helped the structure......
a decision has to be made on one of the key backs.......and Dempster plays HB...
Hudghton - Dawson - Baker
Gilbert - Fisher - Dempster
Gardiner - Hayes - Montagna - Dal Santo - Gram - Jones
Schnieder - Riewoldt - Goddard
Milne - Koschitzke - McQualter
Ball - Geary - Ray - Blake
Spares
Defender
Maguire - Raph - Begley - Miles
Mids
King - Armo

agree.fingers wrote:When Max came in a few weeks ago I think it actually threw our back structure out.
i'd say we'd be more likely to bring in someone to play third tall forward or an extra runner than another tall defender to replace max.
but i guess a lot of it will be determined by match-ups.

Yeah our back half was terrible. Conceeding 5 goals OMG if we play like that against Geelong Blah Blah Blah.
FFS five goals against what do you want us to do keep them scoreless.
Even the first quarter that was so bad apparently conceeding just 2 goals. That equaes to 8 a game. Surely the back line is what is absolutely humming at the moment.
Go the saints.

And I agree that Gilbo is great in the back six. But really it doesn't matter the make up off the back six out of the 9 or so that rotate through there none are getting beaten. I can not think of a forward that has got away from us all year.bigcarl wrote:saint vince wrote:Yeah our back half was terrible. Some supporters look for ways in which the team can get betterBJ brownlow 09 wrote:Leave blake alone people!

i guess you gotta have a whipping boy every week though
you are suppose to be SUPPORTERS.
f****** support the team every player insted of bagging him out!
guess what kids, if we had three ruckman all in form one would get dropped because of structure. Blake is fantastic, does his job every week but he is in a team with a backline that is awesome and thus his position comes under stress. Get a grip kids.
Good post marto and it was totally obvious from the outset.

Agree in that I think Dempster will eventually come back in.Solar wrote:guess what kids, if we had three ruckman all in form one would get dropped because of structure. However Demspter is not ready yet (or was not by the Richmond game)..so disagree that selection was poor for the Richmond game.

Re: Selection POOR!
Good observation....Very top heavy and lacking class....The Blake, Dawson and Hudghton bracket makes me a little bit worried....surely players like R Clarke and Maguire would inject some attacking creativity into the backline!BigMart wrote:For the Richmond game......

It is not lack of class..as all are ok individually.Spinner wrote:

But asa group the three lack run...
So 2 seems the right balance to me.

We MUST get rid of a KP backman it's ridiculous we were exposed in both the carlton and richmond game... very quickly richmond saw it and took off vickery and put nahas straight on saw Blake following Nahas at one point... can't continue someone must go....
But who to come in?
The fact people were saying Geary ommitted was laughable him and Baker are our only small defenders now who will take Byrnes, Stevie J, Chapman and the resting midfielders in the fwd line? Only Mooney and Hawkins to take on, now
if Hudghton pulls up he can go to Stevie J
Dawson to Mooney
Fisher to Hawkins
Gilbert to Chapman
Baker to Byrnes
Geary to other small fwd
To me it is Blake who should go but if not Dawson must...

Richmond certainly tore us a new one didn't they. 5 very impressive goals including three in the last 20 minutes once the gane was dead.
How many goals or possesions for that matter did Nahas have on Blake. Just because he is small and fast doesn't mean he is automatically going to beat Blake.
Lets hope every side exposes our back line as effectively as Richmond did.
That is the craziest thing I have read.
To be fair, Richmond did only have 27 Inside 50's. And they had 11 scoring shots, as well as a couple out on the full. It's more a credit to our midfield, stopping it from getting into the forward 50 in the first place. Once it got in there they had a shot nearly 50% of the time...
Just a small observation.

I'm saying we were exposed with matchups obviously Richmond aren't damaging enough to hurt usd but they were in control in the first quater no doubt because our backline looked confused...saint vince wrote:mightysainters wrote:We MUST get rid of a KP backman it's ridiculous we were exposed in both the carlton and richmond game... very quickly richmond saw it and took off vickery and put nahas straight on saw Blake following Nahas at one point... can't continue someone must go....

How is it crazy? Did you watch the carlton game? If not go back to the 2nd quater and it will be crystal clear they played small and tore us up... Blake went Gibbs, Dawson was lost it was clear confusion and backline looked ridiculous with the match ups. Wake up Geelong will recognise this too hot tip if Ratten could Thompson will, Chapman, Stevie J, Byrnes, Gablett, Bartel and even Ling can play fwd and kick goals imagine one
Chapman
Stevie
Ablett
Ling
Byrnes
Mooney
Now find them match ups mate... and dont say thats there midfield because they still ahve Corey, Bartel, Selwood which would be enough supply to them
