B. McEvoy v S. King

Post: # 764381Post Eastern »

I think Gardi is our No 1 Ruckman at the moment and the gap is closing between Kingy & Ben. I noticed that Ross gave Ben plenty of game time today, especially in the 2nd half.

I know the opposition today isn't the best in the AFL, but big Ben showed a bit. I'm sure that the debate on this issue will continue until Kingy is available and beyond !!

Thought it was his best game by far. Competed really well in the ruck, and finished with 17-odd hitouts and a few tackles.

However, with the pressure and intensity of finals football, I want Steven King every day of the week.

McEvoy is looking good for the future, but King's strength and experience will be important come September.

Ben is a great long term option, but will need Kings exprience and big body in September. I think he really tires the oposition ruckman out pyhsically which makes gards even more dangerous

Its is still good tp see ben getting game time

Wrong, did the right thing and laid the tackle which hurt both and lead to a goal.
Take him out, accidently hit high and he is gone.

Did ok today and will get better with more game time.

It was great to see him get some serious game time.
Will obviously be sent back to Sandy when King is available.
But these weeks are invaluable for his development.

Today he seemed to position himself much better.

Is it just the one more week for Kingy now?

Again his disposals are usually effective too...not sure on that % but some good kicking including a long switch out of defence.

Looks to be improving every game which is what we expect as he adjusts to the tempo and builds on his 2nd efforts.

I think it was more a case of his coordination and inexperience.. he'll get better at crunching people.

I think he got more game time at the end to spare Gardy from being overwork - he'll be needed next week.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

If only he could get those hitouts to land in Sainter hands...Was almost TOO easy for him sometimes...like he had too much time...he'll learn... and I LOVED that tackle...Sounded great...

worked very hard at ground level but still has a way to go in the ruck. Was up against a first year ruckman and only broke even. Improving slowly and what about that tackle!!! anyone got a you tube of that tackle!?

Tackle was great..

BUT the thing that really excited me about Ben is this game was the quality of his tap-work.

Was I the only one to notice?

Ben's best game...and he at last looked like a ruckman. He obviously hasa way to go and will not displace King this year....but he looks to have a good future.

The overall belief is that McEvoy will be better than Kruezer by a long way - he is just being given the time to develop - and who better to teach him than Gardiner and King!

Yes, saw a few taps, I think straight to Bally and Hayes or Dal. Was impressed.

Could do more around the ground, but jeez. I think him and Stanley will be quite a nice pairing for the next 10 years. :D

Lol, wouldnt wanna be getting ahead of meself much. :p

McEvoy has improved a lot in his time in the seniors but is still a fair way behind King. This has been a great opportunity for him to get some experience but I want the two mature ruckmen in the finals.

Second half was much better...

After that tackle, he seemed to grow in confidence and use his body more and play the ball, rather than worrying about his opponent...

Has clearly got loads of talent, but is still a bit muddled in the head... He needs to back himself and believe he belongs at the level... Play the ball as he would in all the comps he has come through and succeeded in so far...

King is ahead right now, purely cos he uses his body much better... Come 2010 with a few more kg's, this years experience will be invaluable to BigMac...

Sums it up nicely.

Definately improving, tapwork pretty good - albeit against easier opposition than the last couple of weeks, had a couple of good moments, laying a big tackle and kicking long in a switch.

Ought to now have an idea of what's required, where's he still needs to improve, and that he will be able to be a good player at this level - with more work.

Will be a good Saint in years to come, and the Zebra's should benefit in '09 once King returns from the opportunity and improvement this has afforded.

And it's the run he needed IMO, against the second worst ruck division in the league. Will do him the world of good, and he'll only improve with the run.

IMO McEVOY's best game!

Post: # 765233Post WinnersOnly »

IMO McEVOY's best game! His chasing and tackling was particularly good and GARDINER and KING could lift thier work rate in this regard. Definitely improving by the game!

Although he had the better of the VICKERY, Ben still has a long way to go to start directing the ball to benefit his onballers. He doesn't seem to have a feel for where his team mates are under his ruck duells.
