Whats up with Sam Fisher

Post: # 760944Post saint patrick »

Watching the replay of the Carlton game on fox today I couldn't help but notice that Sam seems to well below his normal high standard...

Just wondered if he is carrying a niggle and that the break might have been a godsend...

So important to the grand plan

But just my impression.

He's just a victim of the high standards he's set over the last few seasons. IT's not easy to sustain that indefinitely. It's also not as easy to stand out when there are so many sharing the load.

Carrying a toe injury, and it's been reported on here that he has had an injection.

He was also tagged on Friday by Ryan Houlihan... as has been the case most of the season (that he has a defensive forward played on him), which is credit to his ability, but he must work hard to break from these tags...

It will at least free up Gilbo when this happens as the opposition cant stop them both!

Watching the replay, I think that this is more the reason. Carlton tactically decided to shut down Fisher given that he is so damaging with the ball, impacted on the game to.

He's still is most year to date All-Australian teams.

The bloke gets tagged, has his worst game in what, 2 years?

Now....suddenly the sky is falling, seems people are never pleased.

Fisher has averaged 21.8 disposals and 7.5 marks per game this year. In the two weeks before the Carlton game he totalled 49 disposals and 19 marks. He's right up there with the best in spoils and rebounds. He's also been keeping dangerous opponents quiet in a lot of games. Houlihan had to virtually take himself out of the game to limit Fisher's impact. Fisher still managed to have a game high 8 rebounds.

I'd still say Fisher and Gilbert are locks for AA at this point.

My source at the club says it's a dispute over nicknames. Strange but true. The facts are:

- Leigh Fisher was at the club before Sam Fisher (L Fisher drafted 2002, S Fisher drafted 2003. That meant he got the nickname "Fish".
- Sam Fisher came along later, and got the nickname "Chips".
- Now that Sam Fisher is an All-Australian, he thinks he should get the better nickname, and started demanding the boys call him Fish instead of Leigh.
- This infuriated Leigh Fisher, and there've been a number of near-brawls.
- This explains why Leigh Fisher is stuck in the Magoos (disciplinary reasons), and why Sam Fisher hasn't been playing well (he's still sulking about the name thing, plus got kicked in the knee in the last fight).

I hope it gets resolved quickly.

Been having injections in his big toe it seems. Don't know what the injury is though.

I reckon he hasn't been the same since the shoulder injury a few weeks ago. Even though he came back on, he doesn't seem right.
