Pure Class
"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Re: Oh When The Saints
There are recordings of Satchmo singing "Tiger Rag", but I guess that doesn't really count.Shades wrote:how many clubs have a song that the late Louis Armstrong played
Looking quickly through his complete discography, he also recorded songs with the following titles with an AFL resonance
If I Lose, Let Me Lose
Reckless Blues (BJ and Joey would have something to say about that)
Why Couldn't It Be Poor Little Me (for GT)
Gut Bucket Blues (something to do with "gut running"?)
Lonesome, All Alone and Blue (there were a lot of people in this situation last Friday night)
G'wan I Told You (a favourite of a number of posters on here, ranging from rodgerfox to saintsRrising)
You're Next (one for Choco Williams)
Pratt City Blues (a song for the Cats)
Knee Drops (one that the Match Review Panel should pay more attention to)
Buddy's Habit (absolutely no comment)
And that only takes me up to the end of the 1920s!!

Touches a real chord with me
...as prevoiusly mentioned my late Dad Sir Walter was carried out of the Sorrento church to a Louie version of the saints late last year
...wish I could get the version involved from my I -tunes to here but not sure if its possible
...Think if I heard that song after winning a grandfinal I would be a mess ...a bloody happy mess
Love the Danny Kaye one and have sent onto the family...
We live in hope of that song being on high rotation repeat in about 14 weeks...
sigh

I'm sure a lot of posters on here who have pre-school age kids will be familiar with himQuixote wrote:^^^ Baba what is that THING in your new avatar?
It's (I'm) the Grumpy Old Troll from Dora the Explorer.
He guards a bridge and you have to answer questions before you can cross (alas, in none of the episodes I have seen has he asked any questions about the load-carrying capacity of European or African swallows!)

however this one is the real deal
the dirty dozen brass band out of new orleans play jazz in the traditional street way
would be fantastic at the finals to have a street parade with a band like this
(imagine this down a main street on gf eve!!!!)
given we share the same name as the new orleans saints there is nice bit of symmetry there

As a jazz nerd, I've heard this tune played so many different ways it's bizarre, but I always want to yell out 'go saints' at the end. Not always the best course of action in a room full of people that have no real love for football
Two of the better version I have heard were Tom Waits (from On Broadway) and The Saints Boogaloo at Halftime (New Orleans All-Stars). Both great interpretations of the tune.

It's kinda disturbing that someone other than me has heard of this band, let alone actually knows that tune. Great pickup there.Have a listen to "Casiotone for the painfully alone" - "Optimist Vs the silent alarm". You'll need to wait for the outro. Play it loud!
Never thought it would sound that good on a casiotone.
