Geelong game live on Melbourne TV

Post: # 755728Post perfectionist »

The game will now start at 3.10pm (according to afl.com and The Age, although the Herald Sun is quoting 3.20pm), to enable a live telecast into Melbourne.

The HUN story originally had the game still starting at 2.10, but has since been amended to have the starting time put back to 3.20, so I guess it's another win for the broadcaster. I hope there aren't too many distant travellers who have booked return journeys to depart at around 6pm.

AFL chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan said the AFL was delighted Channel Seven would go live with the match.

"It's a terrific example of the AFL and our broadcast partner working together to put our fans first," McLachlan said.
Yep. First behind Channel 7s shareholders. Well done.

Yep, amended post to reflect that. This is what the HUN has:

"The starting time has been put back to 3.20pm.'

But they originally had 2.10pm, so I guess the AFL site should be more authoritative.

The AFL is dumber than I thought if they think any supporters will actually believe this.

The AFL will peddle out the line "the supporters are the winners" all the time, but the simple truth is the game is being held at a stadium that is half the size of the alternative, and the match is being being delayed to suit the Channel 7 news. The average supporter is anything but the winner.

Pathetic.

I am absolutely livid they have the nerve to bleat out a statement like that. I am absolutely livid about this whole thing.
This is disgusting.

Did anyone think about people who may have plans, that are affected by this change, before going ahead and making the change? Surely if you can't change the venue, you can't change the time. Less than impressed by this.

Damn AFL spin-doctors have gone overboard again.

Fans winners.......crap.

Fans would be winners if it was at MCG AND televised live at 2:10.

They have NO principles.

I missed out on L1 tickets - refused to take the s*** seats the AFL then offered in the peaks of L3.

This arrangement suits me fine!! BBQ lunch, a few beers at bottle shop prices and then the game of the year LIVE on a 60 inch flat-screen!!

Damn. I'm really shitty.

If it's any guide, this Sunday on 7 in Sydney between 3 and 6pm we have Ripping Yarns followed by a Flowery Twats marathon. Yep, they've taken to AFL like a duck (aka swan) to water.

But hang on, those shows are on here too! Seven's saved by the split round!

Sorry, Sobraz, not serious, try Ebay. I logged on to ticketmaster at 9.01am on day of first release. Not going to give them away to some perfect stranger, even if he is a Saints fan! You'll have to wrench them from my dead hands. Especially as they're on the wing.

Tough break mate...you'll get over it

Sounds great but I'm still glad we have good tickets...can't freaking wait

This now appears on the HUN site:

'The match's start time will be pushed back to 3.10pm AEST to accommodate Channel Seven's schedule.

Correction to time - the AFL initially gave us the wrong time of 3.20pm. Apologies for any confusion."

So they went from 2.10pm to 3.20pm and then to 3.10pm

Sound like a story written by Slobbo!

Mr McLachlan said the AFL was delighted Channel Seven would go live with the match to enable the 6pm news and the rest of their nights programming to be shown to the widest audience possible.
Channel Seven Melbourne General Manager Lewis Martin said: “It’s been a great collaboration between Seven and the AFL to ensure our viewers get to see this top-of-the-table clash live on Channel Seven. We thank the AFL for being flexible with the schedule and allowing a live broadcast of a match that will be sold out...just dont expect to see any post-match celebrations people...its gonna be final siren and into the News..cant have you even thinking about flicking over to 9 can we?
Whats that? We have 45 minutes of interminable boring post-match rubbish after the Friday night game? Of course..we want you tuned in for as long as we can on Fridays, we'd go til midnight if we could..gotta keep those ratings boxes ticking over!
Edited for accuracy

Indeed...thanks for the edit!

hmmm....so if the game starts at 3.20pm, let's hope it finishes AFTER 6pm so it farks up 7's news at 6pm, or will the pricks cut short the footy telecast to show the news at 6??

Nothing would surprise me.

Bad Karma Kerry Stokes.
