I was just talking about the guys natural ability. The guy can seriously play the game and my money is on this kid for the future.vacuous space wrote:So is Brad Moran, but he can't get a game at Adelaide. McEvoy has a ton of football ability. Even if today wasn't a great showcase of his ability, he's only 19 and still learning.

Stanley's fairly new to football and is a bit of a project. The early signs are very good. I really wish people would stop potting McEvoy to talk up Stanley.RodKeoghsLoveChild wrote:I was just talking about the guys natural ability. I think both Ben and Stanley are tracking well.
But Ben is well in front of Stanley at present as one would expect..
Ben can fill in now in the seniors.
Stanley cannot.....needs to put on weight and play the game more.
Early days yet, but it would not surprise if both form our ruck combo for many years.
With the verry RAW Magrath beinga smokey.

Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
Stanley is NOT new to football.....he played in the SANFL last year and in the U18 Champs....he has played footy as a junior....he is just wafer thin.
Blake McGrath has a soccer background. and has only played 20 odd games. He is even skinnier.
McEvoy was very underwhelming yesterday......Stanley has more upside WRT mobility.

He IS dangerous.Munga wrote:He's not dangerous, yet. But he's fine.
Dangerous to St Kilda.
He lets his opposing ruckman slip away from him whilst he is watching the play further up the field.
When there is a turnover he can't get to his opponent in time.

Disposal stats are not a very fair guide to how our ruckmen play as we dont use them through the middle as much as some of the lesser teams do. Geelong and Hawthorn are two teams that will only as a last resort kick to their ruckmen. At St Kilda our rucks play a very important role in the defensive zone. Collingwood supporters went bannanas when Wood took 10 grabs and had 19 touches, big deal zero contested and 75% traveled the bare minimum distance. In contrast us Geelong and Hawthorn prefer the ball in Goddards Fisher Joeys or Dals hands.

There you go...St Fidelius wrote:I'm guessing that he had 50% or less game time and 11 hit outs and 3 marks is pretty good...
He is only going to get better
In the Herald Sun it says that McEvoy had 46% of game time...
Pretty good effort IMO

I thoughthe was as good as King has been all year. Didn't really do anything wrong. Presented around the ground a few times made good position in the forward line a couple of times.
Was unlucky not to get a free kick in the goal square when hit front on.
Can't remember him missing a target with his possesions.
Thought it was a good game for a third game ruck man.

McEvoy had 4 disposals, 3 marks and 11 hitouts. Probably 40-50% gametime.
Hale had 4 disposals and 12 hitouts as well.
I thought he did ok, competed pretty well.
Both didnt do much IMO. Hale has previously dominated down forward but failed today. McEvoy needs to improve vastly over this year to maintain a spot in this team.[/quoteare you high?
he is in only his second year?
ruckman always take time to develop,
to say he needs to improve to keep his spot in the team is a joke:)
He needs to forget the fact that he is playing AFL, and just play the ball as he would in any other level...
Looked like he tried to do too many things yesterday and often got stuck in the middle doing nothing...
His second half was better when his obvious nerves settled...
Will be a player, and has many good attributes... Despite what was stated in this thread earlier, his marking is a strength, and will get better with confidence..
Next week he'll be alot better for yesterdays run...

he holds his own all right and is a player for the future.
interesting that ross mentioned recently he reckoned goose could play as a mobile second ruck.
while i'd be surprised to see it, he'd arguably offer a lot more around the ground than ben does at this stage.
ben has a few cms on him, but goose is a very strong player with nearly 100 games experience.
