R12 StKilda v Harvey's Blues
Still 12 days away.
But starting to wonder at the reaction/feeling towards the Harvey factor when we play Carlton in R12.
Will there be a big media beat up?
I am sure many journalists are already starting to pen articles about Harvey going in to battle against his old club.
What "new" angles will they take?
How many cliches like "heart-ache", and "mixed emotions" will they trot out?
How will our players react as they pass him during the breaks?
How will our fans react?
I initially felt appalled seeing footage of Harves in that Carlton polo.
But now I am quite relaxed about him being at Carlton.
I think it was the right time for him to retire.
And it is a good move for him to go somewhere different to see if coaching is for him, and build up some experience.
Like many I would love to see him back as a mid-field coach at StK one day.
In the meantime he is at Carlton and I wish him all the best.
If I had a front row seat I would yell out "On ya Harves".
He was, is and always will be a LEGEND of this club.
So hopefully there will be no disrespect.

you would have to say that the blues will have the edge in the pre game planning as Harves would know all our players strengths and weaknesses and also would be familiar with the majority of the game plan.
will be interesting to see if Lyon throws in a couple of red herrings to throw them off the scent ..like GT did in a game against Adelaide where he started Reiwoldt on the wing.

Now lets demomlish Carlton bury them in the turf and call next.

And to think some of our fans actually think less of him now.....it's hilarious.
Absolutely. Harvey will always be a Saint as far as I'm concerned, and his character both on and off the ground is deserving of nothing but the highest respect no matter where he is.claystreet wrote:Harvey will be back, and any fan who doesnt show that legend the respect he deserves no matter what colours he wears is not worth being a saints fan.

I look forward to the day he returns "home" but until then I wish him nothing but luck.........
........except in Rd 12!

Looks like I was wrong.
No media "Harvey" build up.
So hopefully it won't become an issue and we can just quietly demolish them.

guarantee CH 7 will endeavour to get an interview!! will this happen?
Andrew Carrazzo ( I haven't checked spelling) was asked in an interview this afternoon about what Harves had said, I was in the car and reception rough- But he did not give detail- on whether Harves had given detail

Saints Players have been asked recently about catching up with him at games.....

I am sure that channel 7 will run an introduction on friday night based upon Harvey v Saints....Enrico_Misso wrote:Looks like I was wrong.

If channel 10 had the rights, they would have done so already (like Cousins v West Coast) and used the match up as a marketing tool

I have a great deal more respect for Robert Harvey than I do for most of the posters here.
When it's all said and done, it's paid for meat versus paid for meat, it's no longer suburb v suburb as it was before Demetriou et al banged us well and truly up the rear portal.
Why make it such an emotive issue?
Robert Harvey is a legend of our club and our game regardless of where he is coaching after 300 years of loyal service to our club as a player.
Get over it and don't beat it up.
Remember, it's paid for meat versus paid for meat.

I think a few posters need to HTFU.
Yes Harvey is a legend of the St KFC. One our our greatest.
But in the here and now, he IS a Blues coach and will be doing his best to beat us Friday night. Make no mistake...Harvey is very competitive and will want to win.
But so do I.
So in the here and now Harvey is the opposition. I hope he fails in his role.

Sorry, I meant to add this.
Remember when we stank as a team and we all stood in the confines of Linton Street?
Before the draft, before we went broke -again - and were bailed out with a scheme of arrangement of Lindsay Fox's?
When our recruiting zone had shrunk to the size of Kevin 07's ballbag?
When a 6 goal loss was a portent of improvement?
Those were the days my friends, when footy was my ratheap v your junkyard.
Nowadays, I still get sucked into the footy and I love my Saints, but even with the draft and other AFL refinements, one can't escape the feeling it's our paid-for meat v theirs.
It's a great sadness to me that I cannot hate Carl, Haw, Coll, and Essendon - the perennial premiers of whinge - (in that particular order) as much as I once did. Now I feel a low level of malevolence to all our opponents and great anger for the AFL whores who have stupped us all up the a*se!

Gee.....Wide Receiver....that's bitter stuff. Or a late night out ? I won't have a go at you, would just love to sit down and have a beer and a chat so I could see where you're coming from.
I just love barracking for the Saints......now and always.....was very bitter in the 80's-90's at times for how unfair it all seemed. Footy socialism has kind of worked, and we're there with a good team and a chance.
I'm over 50, and in the sixties/early seventies thought our prominence would never end. I remember being very jealous......and I mean jealous and ANGRY, at my Blues mates when they ruled, almost endlessly, and very annoyingly. Geez I hated it!!!!!
I feel alot of ill-will toward them every time we play them. My dislike borders on religious hatred. Well, almost. Sorry to the Politically Incorrect mob. Stinger and blokes like that know (I think) how I feel. I hate 'em! I am hoping Karma is part of our last 10 years of dominance over the Blues.
I will never tire of wanting badly to beat Carlton , Collingwood, lesser degree Hawthorn....Essendon in there.....modern day,,,got to beat Geelong. I lived in Perth for a while and hated the arrogant Eagles with their virtual WA State Side. The rest are ok.
I am enjoying this, and want us to go on with it. Revenge.

G'day Verdun66 -
Clearly we are of similar vintage. I'm surprised I didn't see you have a crack last week at the fool who said V Howell wasn't a real Brownlow winner. Obviously didn't see those glorious marks and clearing kicks at the Junction Oval.
Don't mean to sound bitter, I am loving the way the team is set up and, of course, that we are kicking butts. If we can pluck a premiership this year I will be over the moon.
I just miss the old days, even when we were horrid. (This masochistic streak is a legacy from my Dad who followed the team all his life and then missed '66 because he was transferred to Sydney.) I object that the AFL has co-opted our game but you are right, Footy Socialism has kind of worked. The Jihad stadium experience, though, is far removed from what I used to love at Bay 7, Linton Street. (The Wailing Wall, next to the Animal Enclosure.) It is a bit too sanitised and sedate for my taste.
All the same, I too have Carlton friends who lorded it over me all through the 80s and 90s when they were buying premiership after premiership with their succession of unprosecuted criminal presidents. So, I will be thrilled if we/when we beat them again this week.

Harvey's gone. He now works for the enemy. So he deserves the same lack of love as any other opposition coach.
Until such time as he returns, and will be duly forgiven.
Make no mistake, he'll be doing everything he can to help them win. So the gloves are off IMO.
If you seriously suffer from emotional trauma when you see him in navy blue... then either get a hobby, or get some therapy.

He is no longer St.Kilda, he is the enemy. Just like SOS is the enemy of the Blues.
I wont boo him (how pathetic to boo an assistant coach FFS) but wont fawn at his feet.
He is gone, he is NOT the STKFC, he was a part of it but I support the team not any past player who is not at the club anymore.
Lance or James??
