well i pay good money for my family's reserved seating and i am wrapped.

they have already short changed reserved seating members by selling the melbourne game to the gold coast and if they had moved this one, i would have been really annoyed.

They will get a full house, people that don't and can't get seating will or should be able to watch it live on tv and everyone is a winner. so we don't get 80,000 people to the G, big deal.

Again matches have never been transferred from the docklands to the MCG for crowd purposes.

1. The fact the Collo threatened legal action was just the one factor

2. The cost of moving Our signage (or making up new ones for our major sponsor) to the MCG was another factor that would have eaten up any benefit of having the game transferred. (pro ported to be $150,000)

3. A second rescheduling of another game at the docklands.

4. The cost of moving the home game's signage from the MCG to the docklands.

5. The accommodation of corporate boxes held at the Docklands for the Geelong match....


The list can go on, but I hope you understand, it has never happened before and it would be a nightmare to achieve

So I want to know if I'm the only selfish one on here. Would be interested to know, of those who didn't want the game changed, how many have reserved seats at Etihad, and vise versa: how many who wanted it changed do not?

i'm not a reserved seat holder, but if i was i'd still have been 100 per cent behind the game being transferred.

it astounds me that the best match of 2009 will be played at the second best stadium, denying 30,000 people a chance to see it and robbing our players of a look at the mcg in a big game atmosphere.

i also don't buy the "logistics too hard to arrange" argument. it took about 5 minutes to arrange the black saturday benefit game.

i think the afl weakly backed down on this.

That's arranging a game and NOT changing venues for the crowd...

Why not ask the AFL as to why we only play at the MCG once in the home and away season? Also, while you are asking them that question, can you also ask them why a team that was rated 2nd for TV ratings (yes, you heard me correctly, second best last year) has so few Friday and Saturday night matches (instead we are stuck with 'twilight' matches).

The AFL have egg on their face in regards to our fixture this year. Quite amusing really. In the grand scheme of things, won't make one iota of difference where we play in round 14 (except perhaps in monetary terms for the club).

i think demetriou is using the "logistics" argument to disguise the the fact that he has been forced by ian collins and etihad management to weakly back down on this.

the real issue appears to be his feud with collins and the fact that the league is contractually obliged to play the match at etihad.

AFL said it would happen. It didn't. They didn't want it to happen. They lied.

Signage? It's more than a month away, plenty of time.

Corporate boxes? They have them at the G.

Compensation to Collo? What for? They will still get the number of games contracted.

very dissapointing decision - we beat Hawks at the Dome last year....got smashed by them on G when it mattered...we needed that exposure. Sure, its not the deciding factor in a game but every bit of experience helps and in front of a huge crowd at the G against a definate finals opponent....there aint much better dress rehearsal.

That leaves three alternatives ...

1) The "we will move blockbuster games to the G" promise by the AFL was a lie which makes them a deceptive bunch of liars.

2) It was an honest promise but in their subsequent deals with the management of both stadiums they have failed to enshrine that principle in the fine print.
This makes the AFL an incompetent bunch of amateurs.

3) It was still possible to make the move but the AFL buckled to pressure from Ian Collins.
Collo is at best a corrupt piece of filthy criminal garbage who isn't fit to hold any form of office given his long sleazy history of illegal immoral and anti-social acts.
To capitulate to this standover man shows the AFL as a spineless bunch of cowards.

Take your pick.
Either way Football is not the winner.
In particular we are the losers here as we miss out on a wonderful opportunity on the ultimate stage.

Actually this is a huge problem.

The Corporate boxes at the Dome are leased annually to businesses.
When you lease one you 'own' it for the year.

The same applies at the MCG.

The owners of a corporate box at the Dome/MCG are entitled to use it at any game played there.

Not necessarily are the 'owners' of the corporate boxes at the Dome also 'owners' at the MCG.
So how does the AFL move legitimate 'owners' out of their own boxes and allow others in?

Even if they could manage it (I don't know how?) what if the daily costs are different?
It may well cost more for food and beverages at the MCG than at the Dome - how will that be covered when the Dome Box holders have signed a lease at nominated prices?

Not a simple problem to resolve.

That is the difference....

The game was moved because of ground conditions and not to accommodate the crowd.

So one would feel that the Docklands stadium is liable for the change in venue because of an unsafe working environment and it would have been up to the Docklands Stadium to cover all the costs involved.

There would be a huge difference in playing on a ground that is unsafe compared to accommodating for the size of the crowd.

The worst thing about this is that it is going to be a Chanel 7 Game! Delayed for no good reason, 3 - 4 adds every goal. No after match activity shown. They are worse than Chanel 9 were and thats saying something.

Don't anyone be worrying about the Geelong supporters. In today's Geelong Ablettiser Cats CEO Brian Cook said had it been a Geelong home game played at the dome they would have supported a move to the G for financial reasons, but had it been a Geelong home game played at Skilled stadium they would have been against a move.
