Will the Saints still be interested in the Irish.......

Post: # 747847Post borderbarry »

Will the Saints still be interested in the Irish recruits, now that Archie has moved on?
In particular Tommy Welsh (correct me if I have the name wrong), the lad who came over and spent a week with us but was too late in getting the application or whatever in with the AFL. Does anyone have any info on how he went in the week he spent with us? Did he impress?

I didn't think Walsh came over because the Gaelic grand-final had to be replayed or something similar.

You are correct. That is why he came over too late to be considered for this season, but he still spent a week with the Saints.

Ah ok I didn't realise he still came over.

Hopefully someone on here can give us an idea to how he went.

There was some newspaper weasly words (don't trust the whole "as we understand" basis to justify rumours) saying he didn't want to come back.

Here's the actual link
he group did not, however, include highly-rated Kerry youngster Tommy Walsh, who trained with St Kilda last year but is said by local media to have "cooled on the idea of going to Australia".

No we don't want him - he has an extremely bad hair do.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Tommy Walsh only played for 10 minutes before sustaining an ankle injury.

Looked like a good mover for his size and good skills. They referred to him as the next big thing in Kerry football.

I think it is going to be more a case of the Irish still being interested in the Saints.
A press report at the time he returned to Ireland gave me the impression that he was happy to have come and seen how AFL players train but had never intended to take leaving Gaelic football seriously.
