Hudghton and Maguire up for Saints recall- Herald Sun
AN INJURY to St Kilda defender Jason Gram has presented a chance for Max Hudghton and Matt Maguire to return against the Brisbane Lions. Gram, who is battling a left thigh injury, could not join training at Moorabbin yesterday.
The dashing half-back managed to hobble only one lap with his thigh encased in a heavy bandage from hip to knee before he disappeared to the dressingrooms.
While Saints officials said Gram had only bruising and should be ready to train later in the week, the injury leaves the door open for either Hudghton or Maguire - even both - to play their first AFL games this season.
Hudghton, a regular key defender, made a successful comeback with VFL affiliate Sandringham last weekend after a long battle with a calf injury.
And Maguire has booted five goals in each of the past two VFL games to push his recall claims.
Even if Gram proves his fitness, it is expected either Hudghton or Maguire will be back to help Zac Dawson in the massive task of containing key Lions targets Jonathan Brown and Daniel Bradshaw.
Captain Nick Riewoldt, who re-signed on Tuesday for the next four seasons, did not train yesterday.
But he is expected to be out there for the Saints' main session tomorrow.

The story is a classic example of a speculative filler.Mr X from the West wrote:Overstating it a tad, isn't it?azza12 wrote:Even if Gram proves his fitness, it is expected either Hudghton or Maguire will be back to help Zac Dawson in the massive task of containing key Lions targets Jonathan Brown and Daniel Bradshaw.
They obviously had a little spare space they couldn't flesh out with an advertisement for cheap casserole steak...
