contested ball and tackles?
These are the oft stated measures by the team. Can anyone tell me what they were today please?

First quarter we were outstanding for tackles and pressure. Not so much in the other quarters.
But I've heard people say on here that it's the sign of a good team that you still win when you are playing badly. Not that we were playing badly by any stretch of the imagination, but compared to previous weeks we are below where we've been at.

What they did in close was, rather than to try to forge through, they deliberately knocked it wide so that team mates could use their pace to run onto it. Of course, this only works some of the time, as they were not knocking it to someone in particular but to an area. We did stop most of their run through the centre which they used to good purpose against Hawthorn.bigcarl wrote:they were so quick that we couldn't catch them?BackFromUSA wrote:lowest tackle count for the year?
We had quite a few fumblers tonight, hopefully just one of those crazy nights. Next week, new opponents, new challengers and a 100% team effort.

If felt like Saints 36 to Jobe Watson 20. He won the ball from the stoppage time and time again, shooting out handballs to their receivers who easily broke away with the superior pace. I was amazed we didn't put a hard tag, or at least a body, on Watson at every ball up to nullify his impact. If we've been able to stop Watson in their engine room, their run would have dried up and we'd have regained the ascendancy.Devilhead wrote:Clearances - Saints 36 Dons 20

Round 1 (SY): Contested Ball +7, Tackles +17, Clearances -2
Round 2 (AD): Contested Ball +33, Tackles +32, Clearances +4
Round 3 (WC): Contested Ball +18, Tackles +24, Clearances -4
Round 4 (FR): Contested Ball +15, Tackles -4, Clearances +8
Round 5 (PA): Contested Ball +14, Tackles +22, Clearances -2
Round 6 (WB): Contested ball +20, Tackles +26, Clearances -5
Round 7 (CO): Contested ball +7, Tackles +6, Clearances +1
Round 8 (ES): Contested ball +9, Tackles +3, Clearances +16
Our lowest tackle count for the year was 51 against Freo. We had 58 today. I'd be really curious to see the number of missed tackles each week. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we had more today than other weeks.
While we won the contested ball this afternoon/evening, we actually lost the groundball (-8). That's not usual for this team. We belted them at the stoppages though.
