misprint? -- or maybe Zac is something special
Just looking at the "1%s" column in the stats v Collingwood.
We had 64 (to Coll's 49)
Our top six were:
Ray, Blake and Ball, 4 each.
Fisher 5
Geary 7
Zac Dawson 13!
That seems quite disproportionate -- something special I hadn't been noticing.

Nah that seems about right, he is currently the 4th ranked player for 1%ers in the league behind Mackenzie, Glass and Merrett...

They're the hardest thing to notice, every bump is a 1%er so it's pretty easy to understand how you lost count

That stat, the 1%er is obviously biased to backman as they are pretty much attempting to spoil in every 1 on 1 contest - regardless, congrats Zac! I think max will struggle to get back into the 22 if he keeps his form up...Saintschampions08 wrote:YepsaintsRrising wrote:Out of interest....are spoils 1%ers?
Dawson had 10 spoils, thus giving him 4 1%'s other than spoils
I'm sorry but i had to laugh at this post...as good as dawson has been as soon as max is fit he is a walk up start... dawson should thank gilbert/fisher/blake for helping him out in nearly every contest.hotdish wrote:That stat, the 1%er is obviously biased to backman as they are pretty much attempting to spoil in every 1 on 1 contest - regardless, congrats Zac! SA Saint, my argument has merit. If you set aside reputation in this discussion, it is an objective reality that Dawson is one of the best spoilers in the game at the moment. As a key defenders role is to do this, if Dawson is continually beating his man, why would be be dropped?S.A Saint wrote:I'm sorry but i had to laugh at this post...as good as dawson has been as soon as max is fit he is a walk up start... dawson should thank gilbert/fisher/blake for helping him out in nearly every contest.hotdish wrote:That stat, the 1%er is obviously biased to backman as they are pretty much attempting to spoil in every 1 on 1 contest - regardless, congrats Zac! I do not see S Fisher, Gilbert or Blake being dropped, which would suggest that Max would only come in for Dawson.
Max hasn't played a game all year and may struggle for a month or so with fitness and form. I can easily see Dawson playing 22 games this year.

Jeez, you try and recreate 2004 and beware, you just might get it!saintsRrising wrote:Well in Zac we now have our future full back...
All we need is to find (or develop) now is our "Hamill" replacement...ie the true mid-sized half forward.
We haveseveral possibilities in Gwilt, Heyne, Lynch...anf maybe even Allen.
Move on...we have 22 Hamills out there every week...that's why were top!

Your argument does have some merit in it with the fact that he does do a lot of 1%. However if you watch the game closely the number of times that other defenders have to come in and help dawson out in marking contest plays a big part in his 1%. Blake/fisher/gilbert most likely beat their opponents one on one without the help of others. Zac has been o.k this year in defence which is largely due to the high pressure game we are playing.
Both things being equal if max and zac were both 100% fit i know who i would choose any day of the week.
