Hypothetical Debate ..........GOOSE !!
We have all read & heard the many and varied reports on where Goose is at and when/if he will get himself into a position to be selected in the senior side.
Let's hypothetically assume the worst and he doesn't deserve another game on his merits. Goose is on 99 games. Do we give him that 1 game to get him to 100.
Purely hypothetical folks. For what its worth, I think he will get back at some time this year but won't be back anywhere near his best until 2010.
I'd love to read others thoughts !!

yeah it's interesting.
i honestly think that RL learned a lot from the Gehrig saga.
it could be a case of RL being bitten once twice shy.
while FG was a FF and MM is a FB the practice is the same:-
do you take a "risk" on public sentiment?
i suspect that the answer from RL is a resounding 'NO'.
why 'No'?
why No is because whilst he would love to give goose his 100th,
and whilst everyone would love to see goose play his 100th,
the 'risk' is too high.
once bitten twice shy i reckon from RL.
of course i could be completely wrong.

Re: Hypothetical Debate ..........GOOSE !!
i haven't written him off yet but with the backline flying like it has been we might need to think a bit laterally about the sort of roles he can play.
we desperately lacked a second key forward yesterday, for example, with jimmy gwilt being asked to hit well above his weight.
would goose do any worse in that role? he's very strong aerially and would provide that second target that we missed.

Gwilt provides tackling and contested ground ball pressure when in the forward line.
He has the versatility to play forward and back so can be moved around to suit oppnoent matchups and enable interchange rotations.
Goose would provide marking strength and contested marks in either forward or back but not the same level of pressure that has been the key to success in the first 6 matches.

Re: Hypothetical Debate ..........GOOSE !!
perhaps. look it was just an idea that might guard against us falling back into the "kick-it-to-roo" trap that started to rear its head yesterday.ace wrote:Goose would provide marking strength and contested marks in either forward or back but not the same level of pressure that has been the key to success in the first 6 matches.
another scenario would be to bring mcevoy in as second ruck, allowing us to play kosi forward for the full match.
gwilt could then play as third tall forward, a role i believe he is more suited to.
It sounds like Sam Fisher might miss this week. Might be time to give Goose a run as early as next week?
I just hope he doesn't play his 100th for Carlton, which is where I am tipping he will ask to be traded to if he cant establish himself in the side this year.

i heard carlton was interested, too. they'd plonk him at chf and having another marking target apart from fev would make them pretty dangerous.doggerel wrote:I just hope he doesn't play his 100th for Carlton, which is where I am tipping he will ask to be traded to if he cant establish himself in the side this year.

i think raph could be very effective as a mid or a half forward.matrixcutter wrote:i didnt say they have to come into a back line....that would be the obvious' wouldnt it...since they are defenders.
ok chuck em up the forward line....drop koz and schneider for goose and raph
goose could hold down chf, imo, and since we didn't really have one yesterday it could be a possibility.
wasn't having a shot at you, but just pointing out that players are often more versatile than they are given credit for.
good players you can usually find a spot for.

well gwilt, who was effectively chf yesterday, is averaging 0.5 goals a game this season.matrixcutter wrote:dunno about goose kicking for goal.
