BREAKING NEWS...and not good :-( X - ACL injury)
Just reported on Triple M footy that Xavier Clarke has done his ACL playing for Sandy, and will require a full reconstruction.
Shattering news for X... Devastating.

This is bulls***.
Unlucky yes!
May actually keep him at the club as if out of contract (i think) will have to take a smaller contract and of no trade value, whereas if fit may not have been able to afford himor lost him for nothing
Most make full recovery now days

In front of McQualter, Eddy, Gwilt and co.....
Just because we are winning doesn't mean players can't get dropped. He has played over 100 games, was finding form in the reserves and definitely is a senior player.
Stubbornness has destroyed his career this time.
Lyon won't give him another chance. Yet people tend to forget how good his best was...
In a matter of no time, all of the 'bit' players in our team won't look so good when we lose.

what a cruel blow for X. And not good for the Saints. Having a player like him putting pressure on the blokes in the senior team was great. Our match ready depth has just diminished by one. Hope this doesn't tell a sorry tale if we start to struggle with injuries in the seniors. Bummer. Haven't been the greatest fan of X but feel for the guy. He must be devastated.

Whats even more frustrating is the fact that idiots on this site (see above) talk about his trade value......and what the set-back means to us.
Sometimes I don't blame players for chasing money, premierships or alike.....Because people show time and time again that they don't care about a player, they only care about themselves.
I really hope he gets another chance.....Even if it isn't with us.

If it is the worst case scenario then I hope the club sticks by him and the players rally. Genuinely nice bloke, one of the unlucky footballers whose body continues to fail him.
Cannot question his ability, skills, courageous and IMO was one of the few who chased and tackled before someone turned the light on for the rest of the list.
X will be back in 2010 to make his mark.

He is a great person who has done some really good things off the field, however i do remember how good he was and he showed glimpses of brilliance but at no stage was he in the best 10 players at any time.Spinner wrote:older saint wrote:Rubbish.Spinner wrote:Should have been playing in the fkning seniors.....

If you have played any team sport at any level chemistry is important and it can damage team chemistry droppign players who are performing a role exactly as asked for a "named " player . He missed part of pre seaosn was working back in to form but had not yet got an opportunity as one had not presented itself.

Best wishes to X, no matter what the outcome.
It's a cut throat business footy. Gotta take the good with the bad. Unfortunately, this game is really, really tough on knees.
That said, I honestly, HONESTLY think that X was going to be a fringe player this year. Over the past couple of seasons he just could not get his body right and in the end, its what damaged his position in the side.
At his best, he would most definately be in our best 22. Unfortunately, we have only been able to see glimpses of his ability, as he just could not string the games together.
All the best to him though. He is one of ours and as far as I am concerned, we stand by our own. I feel for him. I really do. Tough time in his career to have a occupation threatening injury.

It's a real sad one.JEANLUCPICARD wrote:Probably career over at the saints.
Joel Smith'esque.
Coulda been a great player if he'd strung a whole year together!
I'd love to see the saints keep him though. It was really crap what happend to Joel Smith. Keep him on, let him recover from this ACL.
IMO he certainly didn't deserve to be getting a game but it is just such a shame that this has happened.
As sad as it may be I think we are going to have to cut him loose. I still wish him all the best, in footy and life and would be delighted to see another club give him a shot.
Those Clarke brothers have not had a spot of luck in the past few years have they

Poor old X, hopefully scans don't confirm the worst. I think he could have been a valuable contributor and one that was putting pressure on those in the senior side.
And those nasty enough to call career over, or he wasn't worth much anyway, are you actually St Kilda supporters. What an awful way to behave re one of our own.
