In 1998 when Ian Synman turned 60, his son in law, managed to track down Terry Waters (Pie No 5) in an attempt to retrieve Synman's No 9 jumper.
But Waters didn't have it. He wore it to training as penance - and wore it out.
Synman still has Waters' jumper.....
You Go.....
Great, I've got a real doozie, too -
In 1992, Essendon reserves player Peter Filandia "won" the Gardiner Medal, that competitions highest award, by a whopping 7 votes, but, in a twist of fate he had been suspended during the season. In an eerie 1997 Brownlow preview, this allowed the runner-up, a St Kilda reserves stalwart, to be awarded the medal in Filandias place.
Which Saint was that?
"Mick Dwyer"
Hey ric I've got one that I want to PM you, if you dont mind.... but I will post another question anyway....
I went to this game and also watched the whole of the reserves match,
Gee I still wish we had the curtain raiser………..
Watched spida play his first games for the saints in that reserves game, he was up against Stephen Allessio, who was also playing in his first match. There was even a young Jamie Shanahan, James Hird, Mercuri and Misiti running around in that reserves match playing their first games…..
Gee how I miss those matches, did I mention that before????……
Anyway back to the question….
What number did Spida wear in that match, and for that year?
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!
Way too early for Kickett and Fletcher.
Riggs, Curtain and Frawley is correct.
I remember Curtain for what must have been his only other game. Playing Hawthorn at Princes Park. In the last minutes of another drubbing he found himself on Lethal Leigh. When the siren went a condescending Matthew went to put his arm around Curtain and give him some encouragement. Curtain shrugged him off and mouthed something that looked like "For Gough".

I think it was the only victory we had all day.
I just checked...
both Kickett and Fletcher played in 1992... #52 and #16
anyway, I will post a question tomorrow.......

Big Carl debuted against The Dees at the Junction oval in 1963 also with a young Stewie!! Neil Coco Roberts wore no. 10 before Big Carl.
I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

Thanks St. Fid, I need to think up a good question - I reserve the right to come back on here soon with a goodie..

I think you'll find Hird played his first game in the seniors that day - was it Sheeds first loss to St Kilda?

To tell you the truth, I do remember the reserves match and watched spida play against Allessio, Hird was listed as an emergency for the firsts, but I can't remember if he played in the ones....
In 1980 the saints beat the bombers twice in the season....
Waverley the saints won by 5 points
Moorabbin the saints won by 3 points

Hird kicked a goal or two in the 1s and hurt his knee. Oh well, start as you mean to go on! Some irony in him hurting himself in his first game AND his 200th.
Sorry for taking to long - been pretty busy at work. A good question is hard to find now cos they've all been asked already!! But I'll just go for the tried and true method. In the Doc's (Baldock) first year as coach who wore jumper numbers:
12.
22.
19.
16.
And who coached our Reserves?? Probably not all that hard now is it..
Cheers Yipper the umpire.
