Try something with Dal.....
He is primed for Kane and visa-versa.........but I reckon we should start the game with a WCE like surprise......yes Dal should run through the middle......but to throw Cornes off, start like this....a surprise works best when the opposition do not see it coming (ie/Voss to play fwd on C.Cornes, and be the #1 target) we are in a position to take the initiative because we KNOW the match-up they want...

Whilst I would go with this as plan A. As much as we may dislike is, Dal Santo could have a dog of a day with Cornes on him. Ross hopefully has some back up plans, like throwing Dal forward, or playing him off half back, as some hypothetical idea's.Goose is king wrote:I dont think we should change a thing.
Dal is in career best form.
Back him to do the job because he is the second or third best player in the comp ATM.
If Dal is getting done, we still need somewhat of an output from him, but atm I'm backing him to do well.
Carpe Diem
You need a change occasionally - to avoid predictability.....and throw the cat amongst the pigeons.....
Great cricket captains understand when to do something pro-active and out of the ordinary......I would try and unsettle Cornes...who is the second best tagger in the AFL IMO
Goddard was going well in the middle before WC....
Gilbert did OK in the pre season as a fwd....
Even if it only for 5 minutes.....it will unsettle their structure......

I like the idea...
In the event that Dal maybe snags 2 in the first quater, this would change the whole complexion of the contest due to confidence...
Kane would begin to second guess himself...
Then rotating through the middle, Kane will be playing catchup, and Dal will always be a threat in the forward half due to his terrific skills...
Hope Ross runs with it....

Games are mainly won in the midfield..
Dal is in white hot form...so IMO leave he where he can have maximum impact.
If Cornes gets on top then move him...but not early.
In adition our midfield is the deepest it has been fora while...if Cornes hold Dal then others like Hayes will shine.

Was watching The Teams on Fox last night and they suggested Port's best bet might be KC on Montagna, the latter being such a damaging runner ATM.
So surprises might work both ways.
They're the one's who've been talking the KC/Dal thing all week remember... Setting us up for a last minute switcheroo ...

Don't you think moving him out to avoid a tag is conceeding? If i was port it would be a huge psychological boost of the 2nd best midfielder in the game on form this year is in the forward pocket at the first bounce.
This is where we find out if Dal has stepped up or if it is just like the trailer of a movie where all the good bits have been shown but the whole thing is average.
Judd, Ablett, etc take on the tagger. Lots of blocking and physicall presence on Cornes is the best way to beat a tag

Dont avoid the tag.
Take it head on.
His team mates need to work to assist him to break it.
Solid workrate from all the mids/backs will let this happen.
I dont think we need to change what we are doing too much.
I just hope we see the 60+ tackle intensity that we should.

Schneider isn't playing awesome or anything and has a fairly clean history. Perhaps he just winds up from the forward pocket as the bounce goes up and slams a knee into the kidneys of that little Libba Kane Cornes. Maybe a month out? No doubt he'd come back fitter and better for the rest.
Just kidding. I think.
Dal will cream KC. Besides even if they cancel each other out we have WAY more midfield depth than them...
I really don't understand the concern.
Besides, I don't even think they'll line up on each other. Too obvious.

i'm always wary that we'll slip back into old habits. tonight will be a big test.InkerSaint wrote:And yet the Saints have had no problem this year doing that - we have had more avenues to goal than ever before.bigcarl wrote:true, but dominating the midfield means nothing if you can't actually put it on the board.saintsRrising wrote:Games are mainly won in the midfield.
Exactly right, I would love to see his team mates helping out on this one. Just enough rough and tough to let Kane know Dal has some support out there.bigred wrote:Dont avoid the tag.
