actually I was wondering which Spotlight he went to to buy Tackle
If the tackle is in the spotlight, I hope it doesn't end up in sack pain like the GT thread...

New to AFL football are you?

Was a legal tackle...Goose grabbed him side on & swinging is the only way to bring the player to ground.

Legal & happens weekly.

Only in the spotlight because unforunately the player got injured. It's something none of us like to see - but reality is, it's a contact sport. That's the risk of playing football. I almost decapited a team mate last night, it just happens.

lmfgdao.
the rule says u cant pin arms and push forward into their back, so therefore u have to sling to get them on their side.

Matt Maguire's VFL clash scrutinised
Craig Hutchison | April 26, 2009 12:00am
AN off-the-ball incident involving St Kilda star Matt Maguire and which left a player in hospital with neck injuries has been investigated by the VFL. The burly Saint, playing for Sandringham, allegedly slung Frankston rover Clinton Proctor to the ground.

Frankston general manager Bryan Mace said Proctor's injury was a result of three "nasty incidents" that affected Frankston players.

Classy onballer Marcus Marigliani collapsed in the rooms after the game, Mace said. And Byron Barry had to be stretchered off -- also with a neck injury.

"He (Proctor) won't play for a week or two. He's got the aftermath of concussion," Mace said.

It is understood the Maguire-Proctor clash was not caught on film.

AFL Victoria football operations manager John Hook confirmed Frankston had sent a formal letter to the VFL regarding the clashes in which the three Dolphins players suffered head injuries during the game against St Kilda VFL affiliate Sandringham last weekend.

"The umpires had already assessed the incidents, and myself and Peter Schwab looked at all of them, too, and felt they weren't worth sending to the tribunal," Hook said.

Hook said Maguire's was a fair tackle.

"It was a fair tackle. The player still had the ball," he said.

"We can only go off what happened on the video, we can't judge things that may or may not have happened."

Mace asserted neither Sandringham nor St Kilda had inquired about the health of the Frankston players.

"I've been listening to the commentary coming from the Melbourne media about how St Kilda's tackling has gone up a number of degrees and if that's the example of it, well it certainly has gone up," Mace said.

"We can't take any further action.

"I mean, when you've got something on tape and they look at it and they come back with the answer that they felt it was within the boundaries of regulations, then nothing more can be done.

"Unfortunately the cameras went off it before the full issue had played out."

Asked if he felt the incidents were outside the spirit of the game, Mace said: "Yeah, I did actually."

"If I had to say anything, I thought

.....that that one instance might have been a matter that the umpires would have certainly looked at."

At least when they win a grand final they do it on their own - no need from a helping hand or 6 from corrupt cheating officials like your Brisvegas Ballerinas did in 2006! :)

Does he proof-read his own articles? He starts by saying:
AN off-the-ball incident involving St Kilda star Matt Maguire and which left a player in hospital with neck injuries has been investigated by the VFL.
and then writes...
It is understood the Maguire-Proctor clash was not caught on film.
and then...
Hook said Maguire's was a fair tackle.

"It was a fair tackle. The player still had the ball," he said.

"We can only go off what happened on the video, we can't judge things that may or may not have happened."
So what is it Hutchy, off-the-ball or did the player have the ball in his hands? Was it caught on film or not? One or the other not both you tool!

I watched the Sandringham v. Frankston match on the ABC, and Maguire's excellent tackle was there for all to see.

Mace must have been in the bar at the time to say the incident was off the ball and not caught on camera because the Frankston player had the ball and continued to hold onto the ball whilst being slung by Maguire's grip on the jumper, as the ABC coverage clearly showed.

Mace's comments are clearly derogatory to Maguire and to St Kilda by their insinuation that there were behind the play incidents which inflicted serious injury on Frankston players.

Perhaps something to do with Frankston having expectations that an alignment with St Kilda was in the offering and that the decision of St Kilda to align with Sandringham for 5 years, which has called to question the future of Frankston particularly if the AFL funding of $140,000- is not forthcoming in 2010, is the real reason for Mace's inaccurate, vitriolic and ill conceived comment.

Cleary did carry on but his comments that a VFL player of Maguire's size tackling a VFL player of the size he is bore no relevance to what can happen on a footy field.

Cleary's reputation in the VFL is what it is for very good reason, and give Cleary's comments the status of being bizarre - as the majority of Cleary's comments are these days.

Cleary unfortunately, and due to his personal circumstances, does not have any capacity to form an opinion based on fact - because he has an all consuming mind set.
