Ex-Saints putting the old into Old Haileybury
From The Aged:
YES, the rumours are true: 37-year-old former St Kilda champ Robert Harvey will pull on the boots for Old Haileybury in A-section in the Ammos. "He'll play in the magenta and black at McKinnon on Saturday," said chairman of selectors Darren Seccull. And why wouldn't Harvey play for Haileybury (even if they do wear magenta)? Former Saints at the Bloods include Stewart Loewe (who's 40), Brett Voss and Tony Brown as well as Harvey. Shane Wakelin, who was a Saint before he was a Magpie, next month will play one game with his twin brother Darryl at their original club, Kimba, in deepest, darkest South Australia, before returning to Melbourne to sign with the Bloods. And Bloods coach Jamie Shanahan, the 41-year-old former St Kilda defender, is threatening to come out of retirement. "He's been talking himself up over summer," Seccull said. Perhaps Haileybury should be called not the Bloods but the Bloody Olds when they host Old Trinity in the opening round on Saturday.

Old Camberwell is virtually the same - Rayden Tallis, Ben Dixon, David Loats, Rory Hilton.
Plenty of other ex-AFL players running around as well. I'm just lucky enough to play for the team with all the ex Sainters...
The Saints are coming!

How is Robert Harvey eligible to play for Old Haileybury.
I went to Haileybury - class of 1969.
I don't remember old man Robert Harvey being there at that time.
His name was not on the football honours board either.
However he could have been there before they invented the honour boards or the pre history records could have been lost.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

The whole competition is less of an old boys comp now - with the inception of club teams such as Oakleigh and Ormond etc. Thus, although about 60-70% of the team attended Haileybury, me and the remaining players did not.
The Saints are coming!

Trio of Saints not enough to draw blood
IN A Life On Mars moment, around 1400 spectators at McKinnon Reserve would have been forgiven if they thought they had been transported to the 1990s when former St Kilda stars Stewart Loewe, Robert Harvey and Tony Brown played for Old Haileyburians in B-section of the VAFA yesterday. Not only that, Loewe (ruck), Harvey (ruck rover) and Brown (rover) were the starting onballers for the Bloods, though the trio could not help them get over Old Trinity, going down by 35 points. Old Haileybury president Andrew Bonwick said Harvey took his time to find his feet and admitted he was "apprehensive" before the game. "He seemed fairly nervous and he took about 10 minutes before he got his first kick. He was tagged and he just took a while to adjust to amateur footy. He played for the first three quarters and he had to leave due to a prior commitment that we knew about. But he ended up with about 25 possessions, he kicked a goal and passed one to Stewart Loewe for one of his goals." Old Haileybury was up by nearly 30 points midway through the second quarter with Loewe dominating in the ruck, but in the third term the game swung on the back of a blistering 10 minutes from Old Trinity's star goalsneak Andy Cultrera. Loewe and Harvey were among Old Haileybury's best, but Loewe was less influential in the second half. Another former St Kilda star Brett Voss is also at Old Haileybury but was absent yesterday.

ROBERT Harvey's debut in the magenta and black of Ammos club Old Haileybury certainly drew a crowd to the Bloods' home ground in McKinnon on Saturday. Bloods stalwart Darren Seccull estimated that there were 1000 spectators, most of whom ate snags and hamburgers. "We sold our quota for the year," he said. Harvey wore the No. 53 guernsey because that was the jumper he grabbed from the pile before the game; No. 35, the number he wore with distinction at St Kilda, was taken by its regular custodian at the Bloods, wingman Tom Chisolm. Harvey amazed even teammates in one passage of play in which he off-loaded the ball at half-back, took it back at half-forward and kicked a goal. He picked up 26 possessions before leaving at three-quarter-time because he had to catch a flight to Tasmania to fulfil a commitment with Carlton, where he's an assistant coach. Unfortunately, he got to the airport and the plane was delayed for two hours. Old Haileybury, or Very Old Haileybury as they might better be known given their former St Kilda players, lost to B-section rival Old Trinity by six goals.
Old players don't die …
OLD Camberwell, Very Old Haileybury's rival this Saturday, clearly wants to make the most of its catering prospects when it host the Bloods at the Gordon Barnard Reserve in North Balwyn. After hearing about meat sales at McKinnon, the Wellers were straight on the phone to the Bloods to ask just how many snags and hamburgers they should get in. The Wellers are not short of drawcards themselves. Their team this Saturday will include former Hawthorn players David Loats, Aaron Lord, Rayden Tallis and Tim Hazell, as well as Rory Hilton and Kent Kingsley. Also in B-section, Old Melburnians have Charlie Gardiner (ex-Geelong and St Kilda), Steven Greene (Hawthorn) and Stephen Beaumont (Carlton), while former Geelong player Marc Woolnough is coaching University Blacks. B-section in the Ammos is like a retirement home for pensioned-off AFL players

St Bedes won the A grade flag with no ex AFL players last year, against Collegians with a bucketfull, including Fergus Watts.
