Goose in contention
Article reads on AFL.com that he could be in line for recall - is apparently fit, and needed due to the depth of WCE talls...
A recall doesnt sound as likely for X however, as he is not yet 100%, and RL said he "would not be risked"
Good news... as long as they are not jumping the gun on Goose

Whilst we're playing well without him, we might as well rest max - no need yet to rush him back! Otherwise he will just hurt himself again!!
Also, strangely, The herald Sun has released an article stating that X is pushing for selection, yet Goose is still not 100%... Very Weird! You'd think that both Journos being at the same press conference would have heard the same thing... but strangely not!
Hard to know what is true!

He has had a long time to get it right, it shouldn't be fitness that's the issue it would be form, bringing him back in too early and seeing him be worst on ground would be devastating for his confidence if he's not ready yet.

Xavier Clark trying to beat the squeeze
XAVIER Clarke is pushing hard to play his first game of the season, but there might not be room for him in an unbeaten St Kilda line-up. Clarke has been best afield in the past two VFL practice matches after a calf injury had restricted his pre-season preparation.
However the Saints' impressive form may mean Clarke will have to be content with taking on Casey Scorpions at Trevor Barker Oval on Sunday - the day after the senior side tackles the undefeated West Coast Eagles at Etihad Stadium.

It's just his opinion mate, and as far as I am concerned he has a right to an opinion like everyone else.Saints Premiers 2008 wrote:what would you know?McEvoy5 wrote:As far as im concerned "Goose is underdone"

Goose was always very good on leading forwards. Had very good straight line speed, good closing speed and great endurance. These were the half forward he lined up on best, shut them down, made them run hard, then when they were spent damaged them the other way.Junior wrote:Wish Maquire all the best, and hope he can make it back to some where near his best form.
Not sure which of the WCE forwards he can match up on, IMHO he is to slow for all of them, they are all more leading forwards.
He came unstuck during the first 6 rounds last year by giving away free kicks for hands in the back, not having played and adapted with others.
Whether this will still be the case given the injuries he's had is hard to say, but it seems Goose's reputation is somewhat different to the player that can be seen on tapes from '04-'05...

I don't (anymore) his last game for sandy was "scrappy".esaint66 wrote:McEvoy5 wrote:As far as im concerned "Goose is underdone"

Just because he didn't win much ball doesn't meen it was scrappy mate. He was playing back in the square and held their Full Foward to 2 goals (i think.)
He wasn't playing his normal role so i don't really think you can judge it like that, i think he played a pretty decent game under the circumstances.
