Are We Really So Scared of Geelong and Hawthorn?
I'm sick of all the hullaballoo about these two teams.
The media obsession with their apparent invincibility is enough to give me a severe case of the pips.
Bakes is back - Bally is too - Gardi is flying - Roo hasn't even got started yet - BRing em on...
Invincible my arse!!

We need to respect them, but we should not fear them. However we're not a serious threat until we show we can beat these two sides. They are the current benchmark and we need to overtake them.
"Ask not what your teammates can do for you. Ask what you can do for your teammates." - Earvin 'Magic' Johnson
If we could only beat one team this year I'd want it to be Geelong.
I heard they are starting to get some injuries. THey are ateam that feeds on the media hysteria and adoration afforded them by the local "Geelong Ablettiser".
I think if they start to drop off a bit through injuries or otherwise, the fickle Geelong fans will be quick to criticise and hang them out. The Ablettiser will pick up on that and start with the headlines quesioning the club, the players, the committment, the mental strength, blah, blah, blah; and then the players will start believing that publicity in just the same way that they took on the belief that they are invincible, so maybe, hopefully we might start seeing some cracks by the middle of the season.
I HATE the cats, so might be a bit of wishful thinking in there, but fingers crossed....

Neither team has looked impressive so far this year but they have a lot of room for improvement, I'm sure they would rather be struggling at this time of year than in late August.
We must respect them, they are still the two best teams in the competition and we would have to get the best out of the team if we were to beat them in September.

Geelong look like they are just travelling along doing what they have to to win.
They'll come home strong again, but Jeff Kennett has helped soften them up by calling them, fragile mentally.
The Hawks could do anything again if they can focus again and get player back consistantly. we can tell them about key injuries disrupting seasons.
This year is looking as good as any and I have faith but I'll be hanging rabbits feet and touching wood all season that our team stays injury free.
When Grams shoulder looked like it had popped a sense of de ja vu came on.
But hopefully the footy gods smile on us and curse all our rivals just for one year.

we should fear anyone or anthing....any team that believes they are a chance to contest mustn't feat anyone/thing
geelongs midfield is scary...its the only positional third of any team in the afl that we might struggle to contest with...on a good day for them...not us

Also remember that Hawks had 8 of their premiership players out last
night, and from memory the Cats started a bit sluggish last year as well, they
still won the games but were not at their best, which is the sign of a good
team. We should respect every team whether it's the Cats or the Dee's.
Remember last year against the Eagles (round 20 i think)everyone penciled it in as a shoo in
and we played like it and we know what happened. The competition is so
evenly spread that there isn't that much difference between 4th and 12th
these days. Fear no one but respect everyone!

Round 17. Sabotage Saturday, The Age called it. Several teams in the top 8 lost to a bottom-8 side, and Hawthorn lost to Geelong that round.stkfc1 wrote:Remember last year against the Eagles (round 20 i think)everyone penciled it in as a shoo in

I say bring em on.
We can respect them as far as we need to but fear should not even be in the vocabulary if we are going to beat either side this year.
The best way to see where we are at as a contender is to play the best and I cant wait to lock horns with the best side of the last few years (Geelong) and the current champion (Hawthorn)

Would rather we play either of them on that last day in September.skeptic wrote:would be a nice time to play both as they're down
Play with purpose, play with intensity and play to our style and the fear may actually be coming from the other change room. We have nothing to lose, they have everything.

geelong - massively over-rated (media group think at its worse).
their midfield is fantastic BUT
their backline is good but ageing fast -
harley - old
hunt - injured for season
scarlett - getting older
milburn - getting older
and their forward line is ??? - who knows.
Hawks are good - but have SERIOUS injury concenrns that arent going to to just go away.
Teams to beat right now - Saints, Dogs, Blues, Pies.
I never thought I would say it but the top 6 are all Victorian teams.. I dont think there is any doubt about that. Bizarre!
