 No doubt those skills are necessary - But I think we both believe debating on his form line two years ago won't account to anything Furthermore, even if his form was questionable at the time, the next debate would be; was it just form? as all players have dry spells.

Within a couples of hours X has generated a bit of exciting going by this thread......Was copping it left right and centre a minute ago.

Not from me - longtime fan of what X brings to our side - run AND despite what many think he will put his body in.

The question with Maguire isnt as fleeting as form - as you say all players go through that - my worry is what in skill terms he was unable to bring to the table when he struggled prior to his injury and where the games at now and what he can add now.

IMHO he has the turning circle of a mack truck......thats not gonna get better after his horrible run of injury...players who run well in a straight line to me in todays footy will struggle....unless they are exceptional forwards....

He's never been a pin point user of the ball and struggled at times in my view in this area and bombed long often...maybe he was told to??

He is not a natural FB (likes to play the attack role) and thats great if all you do is go for runs down the centre corridor ready to unload from 60.....I havent to much of that from us in recent years TBH.

I wish him all the best....Im just not sure if his piece fits both the clubs/leagues puzzle anymore.

Lets hope.

where has the anti-maguire talk come from???

it just seems like the world ha caved in after he didn't star in a pre-season hit out today...big deal

this is all about matt maguire getting confidence and strength back in mind and body surely...

with the confidence of just getting out there the skills will come back....

i think he does have alot to offer in our 18 week in week out too...not sure on which end of the park however but he has the skills to make impacts frequently

that's one of the things we miss about goose. his direct and simple approach to football.

unfortunately ross wouldn't have seen much of him at his best and may not understand what the fuss is about.

we've stuck with him this far through those rotten injuries and need to see it through. i haven't given up on him yet and would love to see him get back.

he might not, but imo we owe it to him to give him every opportunity.

You do realise that he suffered chronic OP prior to his leg injury.

The same injury tht rendered freaks like Judd and Ablett next to useless when they had it.

Ironic that you talk about short memories.

1. His potential and previous form warrants it.

2. He has suffered playing for this club.
Probably right - may need to drop a few kilos of muscle to lighten the load. How heavy is he compared to last playing weight?

I'd be very surprised to see Goose try and pull a "Ben Holland" on the club, but I've been wrong before.

For those wondering what i'm talking about, there is a massive pay-out on offer if a player's career is cut short due to injury. So, if Goose comes back and plays, but is still delisted, there is no requirement for compensation.

The Ben Holland bit comes from in the second half of last year, the medico's at the Demons were giving Holland the all clear to resume, but he (do i need to say allegedly??) allegedly wouldn't play, again allegedly knowing he was going to retire at the end of the season but would cite that the injuries ended his career, not the fact he was rubbish.

the steps that he has taken to try to get back out there after some particularly damaging blows would suggest that he's pretty keen to see it through.

goose is still only 24 and if there is any chance he can get back to what he was the club should explore it fully.
