Nearest to the pin - Pick the 22 for R1
Ok, so we've all posted on who our best 22 is etc.
Anyone care to guess what the final 22 for this week will be?
Not who you's like to see, but who'll actually play. Ignore positions, just starting 22.
My tip:
Begley- blake- Baker
R Clarke- Dawson- Chips
Joey- ball- Ray
Gilbert-Roo-Gwilt
Milne-Kosi-Schneider
King, Dal,BJ
Geary, Steven, MG, Jones
Assumtions: Gram isn't fit. If he is, then Raph to HFF and Gwilt out.

Pretty close to the mark for mine. Between Jones, Geary & Eddy for bench possy. If Eddy is fit.Begley- blake- Baker

Is X out of the picture? Haven't heard any reports - could be a last minute in.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Not sure about X or Eddy, and wonder if there'll be enough room for both Jones and Mini.

One of the weakest looking R1 St Kilda teams I've seen for some time...
Throw in Hayes, Maguire, Hudghton and Dempster and we look about four goals better - or, given they're three defenders, about four goals better off defensively. Still big defensive question marks over Blake and R Clarke and how they'll handle one-on-one contests where mental sharpness (positioning, reading play, knowing when to spoil, timing - two things both players currently lack) is important.
Still think we'll win, but it is a danger game.
I fancy swapping Sam Gilbert and X.Clarke if it's not working for Sammy up forward, whilst I'd be getting Begley in there quite a bit to ensure we have an extra 'runner' out of defence.
I wouldn't mind seeing Jack Steven getting a run. I'd rather him than Clint Jones - who doesn't look to have improved in pre-season - to be brutally honest, but that won't happen. Lyon loves Jones and McQualter, so I'd expect both will be picked ahead of Steven.

It's interesting to note that we have a number of 'swingmen' who can now play in multiple positions:
X Clarke - arrived as a small forward/mid, then went to HFF, now swooping in defence.
R Clarke - arrived as a midfielder, now being moulded into a defender.
S Fisher - arrived as a FF, became a gun running defender, could be needed as a KP tall back
Dawson - arrived as a FF/FB who kicked a VFL bag last year, now looks to be tried again as a FB.
Ray - midfielder who looks to be converted into a quarterback.
Goddard - arrived as an everywhere man, now an elite running back who looks like he'll spend more time in the mid.
Gram - see Goddard.
Montagna - Outside midfielder who bulked up to become true midfielder.
Riewoldt - has played back with aplomb when required.
Gilbert - looked like a tall back pocket; now a third tall forward.
Koschitzke - Won rising star as a CHB. Went to ruck. Then forward. Probably will go back to ruck when Gardiner/King drop off.
It does give us the chance to be versatile if we have a few guys drop off, but it's interesting to see how many players have failed in the position we thought they'd originally start in. Kind of disappointing in a lot of ways.

Actually its more a reaction to Lenny being out and my suspicions that RL will choose a "run with" side this week than any great man-love for Minivacuous space wrote:All aboard the McQualter bandwagon. I think we're up to three on board now. I suspect the numbers would be higher if somebody just went and published the preseason stats.saint66au wrote:Swap McQualter and Geary/Jones and thats my side
