Adelaide and Port Adelaide games DELAYED on Channel 7!
Fair Dinkum.
Is it now the right time for us to collectively blow our heads off at Channel 7
and the AFL for allowing TWO of our games (April 3 and April 24 - both Friday nights from AAMI Stadium), to be shown on a HALF HOUR DELAY!!!
Both games start at 8.10PM MELBOURNE TIME (correct me if I'm wrong please), but no doubt will be shown at 8.40PM on Channel 7.
Just like two years ago, it looks like we are going to be shafted due to the AFL's inability to guarantee live footy into Melbourne from interstate when a Melbourne team is playing.
And as for you plugger - fair dinkum - if you try and stick up for the AFL and Channel 7 on this one your comments are not welcome.....thanks in advance!
No doubt this will be a fruitless whinge until the next TV rights are drawn up, but let's start to ramp up the heat, via the Web, radio and newspapers.
Time to put some serious egg on Channel 7 and the AFL's face for a FEW WEEKS, not just a day or two in the lead up.
Thanks guys!

Sigh..same old argument again..
I agree that the AFL should insert a "Friday Night Lve" clause into their next broadcast rights contract..but they wont
The only reason that the Broncos-Storm game was on live is because there was no AFL game against it. Did you note that the ROund 1 Storm-Dragons game was on at 11.50pm?..because the NAB Cup GF was on against it.
TV stations want value for their $780m they paid...and that value comes from stretching the footy on as late into the night as they can. Yes ppl might drop off if its one-sided but whats more important is that the "non-footy" show on at 7.30-8.30 will rate a hell of a lot better than one at 10.30-11.30 if the footy was live. Also ratings for delayed games arent that much different to live games...so theres nothing really in it for CH 7 except goodwill..and that rarely transposes into ratings.
I agree..its bloody annoying. Its gonna stop St Kilda making money cos I'm sure I'm not the only one who refuses to go to the Social CLub unless the game is live. Too many tossers or fiends of tossers who think its hilarious to give away the live score.

No way they'll do that either. ANYTHING that dilutes the potential ratings on the Analoge/SD coverage wont happen. HD channels arent covered in ratings yetsaintspremiers wrote:Well I, for one, would DEFINITELY go to the Social Club if Channel 7 could give it an exclusive LIVE feed.
THAT would pack the joint out!
Another workaround would be for Channel 7 to broadcast the game LIVE on Channel 70 (The HD channel).
Both workable options.
As for an exclusive live feed, the logistics and costs of doing that, even if they agreed to it (which they wouldnt) would trust me have people screaming blue murder for financial mismanagement. Trust me, Ch 7 would make the Saints pay for every cent. But why would they do it and run the risk of even a couple of people not having their ratings boxes turned to 7?
TV Ratings right now are a very close dog-eat-dog caper. Every minute and ratings box could potentially win a station a weeks ratings. Why would Channel 7 risk that justy to shut up a couple of hundred Saints fans?

Well ring them up and email the AFL and push the point that once again the supporters are being treated with contempt and distain.
However, I rang Channel 7 re the infamous Easter Thursday game against Brisbane which was delayed because apparently Melbourne's television viewers really wanted to watch "My name is Earl" and it was like I was talking to a robot.
But times have changed and money won't be so free next time and the AFL should grow some balls and dictate to Channel 7, not vice versa

and that was the problem with channel Packer, which code would they cover?clarky449 wrote:I agree, also i noticed on channel 9 that they showed melbourne storm vs Brisbane broncos LIVE into melbourne, gee i hope channel 9 get the rights back
the blockbuster at telstra or down the road at olympic park, both cant be live.
and wasnt one of the big gripes about the social club more about whether they put the game on at all?
Personally I much prefer the 7 deal as they do not have to juggle the two codes, and when the multiple digital chanels kick in, I think we are going to get a pretty good FTA deal.

So, not being a Poxtel person,
does that mean that the game will not be shown live on Foxtel ?
How about the Social Club?
I thought in the past we had some arrangement whereby we tapped into the live broadcast?
I remember one game at Moorabbin SC a few years ago where the live pickup even showed them preparing for the broadcast and their banter during commercial breaks?
Was that just a one-off?
Or another network?
So if I am hearing this right there is no way of seeing the game live in Melbourne ?

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

Adelaide and Port Adelaide delayed on channel 7
I refuse to watch delay games if we win i watch foxtel the next day i know a lot of people cant afford foxtel but i think foxtel should do what they do in the english premier league and have viewer choice. the radio is great for live games at lease four stations to listen to on Friday nights
pass the word to boycott delayed games and then the tv stations will think twice.
Aussies love live sport not delayed
great post

Forgetting whether the game should be live or not what do find wrong with just watching the game as if it is live?saintspremiers wrote:thanks roger - does anyone know of any pubs in Melbourne that pick up Impaja (a local NT station) that may show the game live??
I had a satellite dish once that picked it up along with some WA channels - was great for live footy.....don't have it now though.

Get a reality check!
Why does it matter that the two matches start half an hour later on tv? I mean just wait half an hour and it is like it is live anyway? People have lost there homes and family members in bushfires and people on here are worrying about that they can't see a saints game because they have to wait an extra half an hour? I mean I wish it was live too but fair dinkum...get a reality check who cares! Atleast you have a place to live and a tv to watch it on...Go saints!
When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss
Listen to it on radio.
Does it really matter?
Does it really matter?
Lance or James??

I think if you are a hard-core fan you want to know straight away.
I could never just pretend it was starting half an hour late.
If the club or some pub isn't taking the live feed,
then I will listen to the radio (I assume that is live !!!)
and tape the delayed telecast to watch later.
