Soory cant go with this. thought BJ saw the chance for a free and played for it. IMO will get off.Mr Magic wrote:MRP will give him points that will result in a reprimand for an early pla.
The rule is simple - you touch an opponents head when it is over teh ball it is a reportable offence.
The contact wasn't severe so the points tally will be relatively low.

I think he has carry over points from last year. If they don't throw the charge out, he's out for weeks !!Mr Magic wrote:MRP will give him points that will result in a reprimand for an early pla.

it should be a free converted to where the previous kick came from, centered, and then 50 meters, but you have to face toward your opponents goals when you kick it (ie kick it backwards); and the offending player should have to play out the rest of the game with his hands tied behind his back and use his head instead.

Actually I think BJ bent over to pick up the footy so that he could try and kick a goal.Red wrote:Bj turned in to McGrath to get the free. Great bit of play.
the ball was bobbling arond the boundary line and BJ ran behind it so that when he picked it up he wouldn't have to turn 180 degrees to try and score.
I'm not sure how he was supposed to pick the footy up without bending over.
But then again I haven't seem a replay and am only going on what I recall he did from the telecast last night.

agree. like a good forward, BJ instinctively played for the free kick and effectively headbutted mcgrath in the groin.plugger66 wrote:Soory cant go with this. thought BJ saw the chance for a free and played for it. Just watched a replay of the 'incident' on Ch10 News.
Whilst the contact didn't appear to be 'heavy' and it was primarily thigh and groin, McGrath made absolutely no effort to aboid running into BJ's head/neck. If the contact had been heavier I'm certain there would have been serious injury to BJ.
IMHO the replay does not show BJ trying to milk a free by ducking his head - he is doing nothing other than trying to pick up the ball whilst McGrath is seemingly not interested in the footy.

I would be disappointed if he got anything, Goddard knew what he was doing, he milked a free and McGrath shouldn't be punished for it.

You and I have different perspective on this one Armooo.Armoooo wrote:I would be disappointed if he got anything, Goddard knew what he was doing, he milked a free and McGrath shouldn't be punished for it.
I believe that the injury inflicted shouldn't have anything to do with whether the incident is reportable or not.
The AFL don't want 'head high' contact when a player is bending over to pick up the footy - they've made it perfectly clear to everybody.
What was McGrath trying to do if not bump into BJ who was either in the act of bending over or already bent over?
Why didn't he tackle BJ as soon as he'd picked up the footy?
The answer is he wanted to lay a bump, and as such it's his duty of care not to make contact with BJ's head/neck region.
Thing is it wasn't really a bump. A bump is a hip and shoulder. McGrath hit him with his stomach...
If he hit him with his hip and shoulder he probs would get 6 weeks, but I think ya stomach is a little softer.
Anyways, McGrath had momentum moving forwards, there's not much he could have done, he probably expected BJ to pick it up, not turn around, so when BJ turned around he didnt have time to slow down.
Thats what I reckon anyway.

Yeah admittedly I haven't seen it since it happened and when I was watching it, it just appeared to me that he couldn't slow down in time and Goddard wanted to get hit.
