Uumm
I was sure they were on each other, at least in the second half.
I was standing in the less crowded northern pocket and was watching them standing next to each other one on one.
I took special notice as I was surprised that Begley was almost as tall as Kosi (I didn't realise he was that big).

Tungatalum is extremely exciting. He has pace and, though he is quite small in size, seemed to have no problem crashing packs and searching for the ball. Missed a goal early but recounted with a thrilling goal on the run that was Milne-esque. Looks to have a future at the club and will be a fan favourite in the years to come.
I reckon he is already a fan favourite.
Got a big reaction every time he got near the ball.
Looks exciting and ready to go.

PS I reckon 1,000 was way too low.
It was pretty packed in the terraces, and plenty of people out the back at the refreshments.
I reckon closer to 2,000.
Yes he got a reaction from the crowd..............but is along way off AFL level.

Smallish and extremely thin in the legs....
virtually no thighs and calves non-existent....

Saw him walking out of ground in shorts and thongs and just could not believe how pencil thin his legs are (I know already mentioned).....

had a crack though......

My favourite was the isolated "Big Ben" followed by absolute silence.

If Ray was terrible I must have been watching the wrong player.

Really had one poor kick (which was marked in the goal square) apart from that was very impressive.

Ray was very very good. Dont let anybody tell you differently.

Yeah Farren Ray was very good, good disposal, follows ball up well, kicked a great kick to Kosi on the lead.
Kosi looking very much like Rafa but nontheless impressed

IMO it was not Begley with the #17, even though on the team sheet it said he was playing, as the number 17 looked medeterainian, not a pale irishman.

jack steven played well, crashed the packs hard but didnt see much of him second half.

sam gilbert down forward worked well, he took a couple of strong pack marks as did kosi.

and rocky t looked like he was loving it out there, got a big cheer from the crowd as did goose every time one of them touched the ball.

sad to see not much input from gwilt and L fisher (although both were on the s*** team)

Firstly a correction to a previous poster...that #17 on Kosi was definitely a Sandringham player. You'll find Begley is a foot shorter for starters.

As for the Ray disappointment comment....I find that staggering. He was top 3 no problems.

Just home from the game.
Ray was great, very impressed, showed some poise. Worked well with Joey. MCG did a bit.

Short game and it's early, we do look quicker, and new blood arounf the place is what we need.

Max was interviewed at half time & said Goose will be a great "recruit" and he has wraps on Lynch & Hyene.

Beno88 wrote:Gram - Started well, positioned himself to receive the ball well. Got tightness in his hamstring in the 1st quarter. Wasn't risked after that.

King - Solid. Dominated the ruck. Taps to position still excellent. Moved around the ground well. Swapped teams for the third quarter.

McEvoy - Looked ok in patches. Moving better than last year but still looks a bit shakey. Got winded after being slung in a tackle.

L.Fisher - Not much impact. Looks fit.

Montagna - Excellent. Played confident footy and had heaps of it. The best of the mids.

Gardiner - Not bad. Moving well and contested well. Beaten by King overall. Played the third quarter in the A team.

Begley - Tried hard but didn't really impress. Skills poor.

Goddard - Started well and then faded out. Still looks set for a big 09.

Gilbert - Very impressive up forward. Didn't have fantastic opposition but held his marks and kicked well. Could be the answer up forward?

Armitage - Got better as the game went on, was good in and under and went after everything. Finished the game in the B team.

Heyne - Looks good. Is a ready made player and has confidence. Kicked a nice goal. Played in the A team.

Ray - One of the best. Won some contested footy and presented well. Missed a few targets but hit most. Promising.

Koschitzke - Didn't play on a superstar and had great delivery but he did dominate up forward. Kicking for goal good bar one shocker from 10 metres out.

S.Fisher - Good early. Then solid after that. Played through the middle for most of the game.

Dal Santo - Excellent. Looked a level above the rest. Skills spot on. Stayed with his man when not in possession.

Blake - Good in patches. Played across half back and deep in defence. Rarely beaten. Skills were good.

Howard - Tried hard. Has good pace but didn't get enough of the pill.

Maguire - Fantastic to see him back. Skills weren't perfect but its nice to see his booming kicks coming out of half back. Was in the A Team.

McQualter - Good in the packs but lacked spark. Played in the B Team.

Gwilt - Had little impact.

Steven - Got himself into the game in the second half and did a few good things. Loves a contest but still looks raw. Played a quarter in the A Team.

Connors - Looked alright. Is much bigger than 08 and got alot of the ball. Skills let him down a few times but he looks a very difficult man to tackle.

Jones - Not much impact. Kicking still looks very awkward.

Eddy - Excellent. Had a heap of the ball and used it well. Played the full game in the A Team.

Geary - Looks much more solid but didn't get much of it.

Dawson - Not bad. Played in the A Team and did well from limited opportunities.

Milne - Typical Milne. Caught holding the ball one minute, snagging a goal the next. I think he kicked 3 or 4.

Miles - Did a couple of nice things but didn't have a huge impact.

Simpkin - Didn't notice much at all.

McGrath - Very tall. Very lean. Very quick. Didn't see him touch it.

Tungatalum - Looks lively, and tiny. Great pace. Gets into space. Kicked the B Team's only goal.

McGarry - Very good. Played with confidence and seemed to fit in. Got a run for the A Team in the final quarter.

I may have missed a few.
This is pretty spot on in my eyes.

cant really add too much to whats been written already

The available viewing area was all pretty full. Pushing my way through the throng at 1/2 time was reminiscent of a big game at the ground

Grammy had the ball on a string in the midfield til he went off..as did Chipper early

Kosi's kicking style looks improved. 2 of his goals were from decent angles and he never looked like missing them

Milney was terrific, no 70% for him, buzzing everyhere, never shuts up

The player/fan interaction gets more distant every year. This year you ccould chat tot he players and get autographs, pics etc, but the players were inside a long rectangular roped off area and the fans on the outside. No more just wandering around and mixing with the players. I did see Blakey standing next to McGrath at one stage and looking like Paul Callery by comparison. Seriously tall unit

Ground announcer (B.Eva) blissfully understated after the horror years of Maurie Plant lol

Overall a fun couple of hours, very well organised by the Club. Good to catch up with some Forum-ites, including having the pleasure to meet Ralphysaints for the first time :-)

The rookie to watch is Sam McGarry. Gut runs for a kid and an absolute surprise he didn't get taken in the main draft. But, that's our win.

We now have the biggest list in the comp - full of young blokes with a chance. And we have size. This has been a very good list period for us. We are now well placed.

Cheers for the reports guys.

Tell me, pictures of nick heyne suggest he's pretty physically mature. What were people's impressions of his work rate and what kind of role did he play? I know he kicked a good goal but was he anywhere near midfield (could he do a job there?) or in the forward line?

Once again thanks for the reports

Thanks for the reports peoples...

Very excited about seeing Saints at Carrara next weekend. Looking forward to seeing Ray in RW&B with my won eyes for the first time, and hopefully a few new guys as well. Not that concerned about us winning, rather get some good structures in place with an eye on the season proper. Having said that, I hope we dominate :)

Looking forward to 2009 immensely....

The future's so bright I've got to wear shades...
