Westaway out Nettlefold in????
Quite surprised no-one has mentioned this today..
There was a snippet on the back page of the Age sports section today intimating that there was talk at St Kilda of Westaway stepping down and Michael Nettlefold replacing him. The rest of the snippet was just cheap shots at our lack of stability.
Anyone heard anything 'bout this? Or just silly season rumour-mongering?
Oh and Barks..thanks but we can live without a 1000 word rant about Nettlefold OBVIOUSLY wanting to bring St Kilda back anywhere spiritual...thanks anyway

Saw that too....also was another snippet about GT and Caro on Footy Classified, with further cheap shots at GT.saint66au wrote:Quite surprised no-one has mentioned this today..

Who the f*&k is Cameron Noakes anyway....another hack to fill in during the silly season......read more like a refugee from BigFooty, where you would expect to read this sort of crap, rather than the Sunday Age. I know that Psst is not the most serious of columns, but these two snippets had somewhat of a BF edge to them.
Extra! Extra! Read all about it......no I don't want to read about it anymore!!!
Lets hope so. Westaway has been an unmittigated disaster.

NEWS that sacked St Kilda coach Grant Thomas replaces North Melbourne champion Glenn Archer on Channel Nine's Footy Classified piqued our interest last week. Of course, The Age's chief football writer Caroline Wilson is also on the show and it will be interesting to see the dynamic of this panel (or in particular, Caro and Thommo) when the show begins next year. Thomas, after he was sacked by St Kilda, was a columnist for The Age, albeit briefly.
You see, the newspaper also dumped Thomas after he attacked Caro, his fellow columnist, on radio. Thommo was given a chance to apologise but he refused because he's that sort of bloke - hence, no flags but back-to-back sackings.
Thommo is also famous for not believing in ruckmen, not believing in game plans, not believing in young recruits, believing in Aaron Fiora and Mark McGough, the rotating captaincy and giving the football world the expression "going forward" (in my dictionary of corporate gibberish this means "in the future" and is usually used superfluously). Wilson, who is in the US, could n

Maybe a President with some sort of profile might be an advantage?
Maybe a President who could stand up to the AFL on the Draw and other issues would be an advantage?
Instead of Alwaysaway Westaway.

The draw, in terms of who we play aren't that bad, but the 10 Sunday games are IMO.Enrico_Misso wrote:Maybe a President with some sort of profile might be an advantage?

Just why does a side like Brisbane get only 3 Sunday games is really puzzling.
Does Queensland junior aussie rules football play on Sundays?
If not, some serious questions must be asked on the AFL and not the Club

Sometimes these hard decisions have to be made by the club for its own betterment.
We have seats on level 1 and have to be sc members with the victory room on the opposite side of the ground and its too hard to meet up with friends at half time etc....not perfect but to bellyache for so long...
Do you think they personally pocket the funds ffs. They have their reasons

So it has certainly been around the media traps for a while. Anyone know anything about the potential new guy?The seven men who comprise that board - president Greg Westaway, president-in-waiting Michael Nettlefold, vice-president Ross Levin, John Gdanski, Andrew Thompson, Nathan Burke and Simon Grant
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...

Funny how every journo who says something against our club is a tosser... coinicidence? I think not.
For all his sarcasm and wit, Noakes was on the money with his comments AFAIAC.

I agree with Rodger. His tone and information is just plain tosh. Not only is he trying to be smart by putting us in the same boat as Richmond, he's also having a too smart a dig at Richmond also.
If it had come from someone with some runs on the board, then so be it. But Cameron Noakes is a no name 'Dylan Howard' type. Has as much credibility as a comment on SS or on Bigfooty.
ie. None.

Exactly SEN......which was my point from earlier in the thread.......who is this guy? If he had just left his smart-arse comments at the GT snippet, you could say he was just backing up a colleague (Caro), but to follow up with further sarcastic, heard it all b4 crap in the next one, makes me wonder what his problem is with us....hence my question.....who the F*** is this guy?SENsaintsational wrote:I agree with Rodger. ......hang on.....sarcasm, cheap shots, nothing positive to contribute....maybe we've discovered the true identity of plugger66...????
Extra! Extra! Read all about it......no I don't want to read about it anymore!!!
check your facts , Noakes...
Before the current president, Stkilda had Plympton as president for something like 7 years and then butters for 8 ...so hardly a revolving door ....!!!
Our current president having a succession plan , by grooming a new president for succession at sometime in the future , is good business planning , (and shows that Westaway is interested in the club 's interests , rather than hanging on to the presidency forever for his own benefit.)
And I remember Westaways group being called footy first...and so they spent heaps more in footy , which was much needed, and we finished 4th...the previous season we were ninth .
Butters was all about the money- and did well on that front - yet with a brilliant team - we fell from 3rd to 4th to 8th to 9TH .
as a supporter , I am interested more in on field success, while we have a crop of great players that we can build upon for a chance at a flag in the next 5 years- not a big bank balance...essendon and adelaide and west coast etc have big bank balances, but that does not mean happy supporters or any fun on the weekend watching your team lose.
the direction of the club is mostly the president, but the trading result is also the responsibility of the CEO and his team. The president approves a budget , which was supposed to be a small profit he said earlier this year...so westaway's plan was a small profit and on field success....i like that. The day to day raising revenue and controlling costs are not the presidents job.

I can see the funny side of it.
I still can't believe haw poeple can take shots at him... "who the F*** is this guy?" etc... gimme a break.
He's a gossip columnist ffs, and he's paid to entertain. Take it with a grain of salt. Some people need some humour pils.

I have a very healty sense of humour as people who know me will testify to.
However, that wasn't particularly funny. In fact, if I heard it in a bar I'd be calling the speaker a 'wanker' and wouldn't waste my time on him.
Oh and one other thing....describing GT as 'sacked St Kilda coach' is just stupid.
It was over 2 years ago. I was sacked as an apple picker back in 1985 (my thumbs got bruised)....do I describe myself as "sacked apple picker SEN"?
If you are going to try and take the piss....at least make it funny and clever.
