Do we need a NEW ruck coach? !!
And, if so, who should we target?
The other thread re Simon Madden has been hijacked so I thought I'd start a new one;
FWIW I think Scott Wynd might be worth looking at, as would John Barnes.
Any other names that should be thrown up? !!

Yeah mate, he comes across very well in the media and his thoughts of the games he covers are insightful IMO...Iceman234 wrote:Seconded, or thirded sorry.St Fidelius wrote:I know that this person works in the media, but one would presume the position will be on a part time bases in any case...
Luke Darcy
Would be great if the Club approached him so he can pass his knowledge to the younger rucks we have at the Club
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!
I seem to recall that Ball was a Board member of the Swans and worked for the Macquarie Bank in Sydney. Unless he's had a dramatic change of employment (which is quite possibly the case given recent events) and he's no longer on the Swan's Board I'd say our chances with him are just about zero.St Fidelius wrote:I would somehow doubt if he would move interstate for what is basically a part time position.SaintBot wrote:Going with Ross' Sydney connection, Jason Ball could be a chance.

If he worked for Macquarie Bank then he might jump at the job of part-time ruck coach at the moment!
In all seriousness ... what do Luke Darcy/Matthew Clarke/Spider Everitt/John Barnes etc know about ruckwork that Steven King and Michael Gardiner don't?
We have two extremely experienced ruckman, both of who have played a lot of AFL footy and understand how to ruck extremely well at the highest level.
Their tutelage will be excellent for Ben McEvoy and Rhys Stanley IMO.

I don't think it's in dispute that they (SK and MG) know ruckwork well, but a ruck coach (even part-time) should be bringing to the group a different perspective by analysing other teams rucks, and examining contemporary ruck methods.Legendary wrote: In all seriousness ... what do Luke Darcy/Matthew Clarke/Spider Everitt/John Barnes etc know about ruckwork that Steven King and Michael Gardiner don't?
The little things that King and MG wouldn't have time to do, as they would be working on their own games.
I can't see why it shouldn't be only a part-time position, as the rucks should also be working closely with the midfield coach and mids group.
