Jack Steven
He was very young for last year's draft I seem to remember. There was a chance he'd have to wait until this year's draft, but we snaffled him. That was the story given out last year.
If that's true, at what number would be have been drafted this year? Purely hypothetical I know, but would be interesting to hear from people who have a clue about these things.

Based on 3-4 BOG's in the VFL, a much higher-grade competition than the Under 18's, I would say he would have been a top 20 selection.
A lot of people said last year that if he'd waited he would have been drafted much higher this year.
His VFL form proves this, and IMO he would have been a top 20 selection this year.

Completely agree, I have higher hopes for him than any of our recent draftees...True Blue Sainter wrote:I like the little I've seen of Steven. Seems to like the hard stuff, and have a good goal sense, as well as a good head on his shoulders. The fact that he won the Geelong Falcons B&F last year as an underage player is a fairly impressive feat also.
There were reports coming out last year that he could have gone top 5 or top 10...

yet McEvoy, Eddy, Allen and Geary debuted b4 him. Maybe he was injured when the opportunity came or not deemed to be ready for AFL footy(not enough muscle)Armoooo wrote:Completely agree, I have higher hopes for him than any of our recent draftees...True Blue Sainter wrote:I like the little I've seen of Steven. Expect a WHOLE HEAP of improvement from Jack in 2009. We need to take into account that he was still at school (?Mentone Grammar) this year which severely restricted his training program. This year he will have a FULL pre-season and not be interupted throughout the season !!Legendary wrote:Based on 3-4 BOG's in the VFL, a much higher-grade competition than the Under 18's, I would say he would have been a top 20 selection.

Steven was still doing his VCE and wasn't as commited as the others were in their first years... also Eddy, Allen and Geary weren't in their first year... and McEvoy's debut was less than impressive...undecided wrote:yet McEvoy, Eddy, Allen and Geary debuted b4 him. It is also important to remember that despite being a full time player in '08 he was still an emergancy for a final!! that is a pretty big achievement, I wouldn't be surprised to see him force himself into the 22 this year...

in a perfect world our forward line for the majority of the season could become very interesting, with versitility becoming a theme
heyne roo bj
milne kosi schniederman
keep in mind that 4 of those by all accounts could/will and should slot into the midfield depending on circumstances, also that stevens IF he comes on could slot in as another crumber
to me there is a common theme with ross the boss
he is creating a squad of players that can and should be able to covere a wide variety of positions and do it effectively
