No, honestly, kid looks a ready-made footballer. Smarts, athleticism, work rate - he has the lot. I'll be amazed if he doesn't have a string of All Australian call-ups by the time he's finished. Probably the best highlights package I've ever seen. Reminds me of a young Wayne Carey.FortiusQuoFidelius wrote:Give the kid a break FFS!!OLB wrote:If they're his highlights I'd hate to see him play a shocker!

John Peake, St Kilda
"People have to remember that we took Farren Ray and he’s part of our influx of players. Once we did that it changed our direction and what we did with pick 13 because Farren is going to give us some run and carry through the midfield and play half-back. You also have to remember that we had a need for a good hard-leading third forward like a Ryan O’Keefe and we think we got that in Tom Lynch. We focused on Tom once we got Farren Ray into the mix and it was great to get Lynch on board as well.
"We also had to look at filling a number of structural holes we thought we had on our list. With Rhys Stanley, while it’s not a need right now to have another developing ruckman, we’ve only really got on in Ben McEvoy and Stanley will be a good combination for Ben because he’s more of a leaper who can also go forward. In a couple of years' time hopefully we have set the club up with two ruckmen that can take over from Steven King

His family are all MAD keen SAINTS
MICHAEL Hurley and David Zaharakis don’t need to worry about not knowing anyone at their new club.
The duo played at the Northern Knights together and, along with Sandringham Dragon turned Saint Tom Lynch, were co-captains of Vic Metro.
They are now off to Essendon together.
Key defender Hurley told the Herald Sun this week the pair are good mates.
PHIL Davis has been a marked man for over a year.
Adelaide recruiting manager Matt Rendell said the club wanted the tall defender after watching him for North Adelaide in last year’s SANFL finals series.
``You probably haven’t seen a happier bunch of people when he did his shoulder and couldn’t play again,’’ he said.
``That took him off the radar for a lot of clubs. We had a laugh about it (today).
Rendell said the 18-year-old could play ``anywhere he wants’’.
``I’ve seen him play midfield very well, I’ve seen him play forward and he’s a natural backman,’’ he said.
YOU can’t keep everyone happy on draft day.
Richmond recruiting manager Francis Jackson revealed the Tigers wanted to take Tasmanian Bart McCulloch with pick 70 but the Brisbane Lions snagged the ruckman at pick 69.
`` We got plotted by Brisbane who took a player we were going to take at pick 70,’’ Jackson said.
``That’s part of the caper.’’
It also explains why the Tigers passed on their last pick.
RUCKMAN Jordan Roughead has two reasons to celebrate.
He is one of the few players drafted to the club they barrack for.
The 18-year-old ruckman from the North Ballarat Rebels is now a Western Bulldog.
His father, Paul, played a few reserves games for the Dogs.
Tom Lynch (St Kilda) is also in the same position.
His whole family are mad Saints fans.

ST KILDA
"Once we traded to get Farren Ray Tom Lynch became a bit of a priority. Tom’s been put through a drilling at St Kilda. He had a fair few interviews. He’s a very competitive boy. He wants to play footy.

Hope the kid goes really well and fills a gap in the forward line.
However from what I read it sound like there was "influence" from Loewe and the fact that he is a mad Saints fan.
St.Mart brought up a valid point in another thread regarding JB and his "old school" approach to recruiting.
I just hope that we are professional enough nowdays to see past the "one of ours" type attitude and choose him for what he is not who he is and who he knows.
Is our recruiting now more professional than the old school? Or is there is still influence used?
Anyway nice to see another Sainter playing for the club. We have Gram Raph and Sammy Gilbert (St George was his team but still a Sainter is a Sainter ).
Hope he goes very very well for us.

Lance or James??

I think Stewie's mentorship is a positive thing.
At least it reduces the odds of getting a dud. Players can ramp it up when their future's on the line and say the right things.
Hopefully, Stewie knows him well enough to recommend him.
If only we could draft 6 potential leaders every year!

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.
