The day after
so from reading through that wonderfully long thread on the decision last night what have I learnt?
- roo will quit because our midfield sucks
- we have the worst board in creation, joffaboy told you so
- we have only 3 members left, ralphy included
- ben cousins is god and we are evil for not allowing him the chance to play
Anyone wanna catch up for a bit of board burning and membership cutting up....

Nah, getting rid of Butters sated my blood-lust. I don't feel as if this board has screwed up enough for me to sharpen my knife yet again.Solar wrote:so from reading through that wonderfully long thread on the decision last night what have I learnt?

So..in the cold light of next morning...anyone game to stand up and say they are still gonna cancel their membership in protest?
Or..anyone have enough humility to say that perhaps they were all a bit fired up last night and may have let their typing fingers get the better of them??

Still strongly think the board made the wrong decisionSolar wrote:so from reading through that wonderfully long thread on the decision last night what have I learnt?

Still strongly believe that comments like the board made the decision..they must be right...back them
PLENTY OF BOARDS HAVE MADE BAD DECISIONS
The press release was full of spin
OF course I will buy a membership as I have for plenty of years
no mention of tearing up
But IMHO this board has made number of poor judgements since coming into power....
Yes some over the top comments by some last night
but many rightfully questioning the decision...
Was it a footy decision
Was it a corporate decision
or was it this new youth policy blah ..............5 mths for that
Would have ruled him out months ago...

The membership cancellation/non renewal is about the only course of action most of us have with the club. Obviously the club needs to know if its actions will have repercussions in this area.saint66au wrote:So..in the cold light of next morning...anyone game to stand up and say they are still gonna cancel their membership in protest?
I think anyone passionate enough to threaten this over the BC issue will become a member regardless. You may lose a few fence sitters though.

Ok, at the end of a 5 month process, and the rumours that were strong that the board at a point in time may have been ok with Ben Cousins, there must have been some trigger as to why the reversal. Ricky Nixon was absolutely confident that he had a club for his star player - so what was that trigger.
I offer the following as the smoking gun that made our board decide NO.
1. Upon the AFL announcing Ben Cousins clear to play - did we hear a reformed person stand and say - I did what I did, and I will do anything to play again??????? Did we hear Ben Cousins embrace his punishment and then the rules for him to play again???
No, we got - I am a scapegoat, the testing is too onerous and above what anyone on 2 strikes is required to do.
POOR ATTITUDE.
2. Upon drug testers attending to Ben Cousins to obtain hair samples as part of his new regime - to find he had short cut hair and waxed clean body. It is a requirement to have 3cm length hair in order to obtain a sample. A diligent - professional - one that is desparate to make a come back - did not know of this requirement?????? This displays a complete lack of self discipline and responsibility for one self.
It has become apparant, that not only the cost of having Ben Cousins is required to be considered - but the cost of ensuring he meets all the AFL requirements, all the necessary support programs - AND someone to ensure Ben meets his requirements, as it appears he is not capable or diligent enough to be responsible for himself - is too expensive and onerous for the club - especially when compared to a fresh face kid.
I stand by the St Kilda football club, their due diligence on the player, and accept their decision that BC is NOT in the clubs best interest.

I am disappointed we wont be recruiting BC but I would think the above is probably the best explanation why. Too much effort... too little trust.Banger2Plugger wrote:It has become apparant, that not only the cost of having Ben Cousins is required to be considered - but the cost of ensuring he meets all the AFL requirements, all the necessary support programs - AND someone to ensure Ben meets his requirements, as it appears he is not capable or diligent enough to be responsible for himself - is too expensive and onerous for the club - especially when compared to a fresh face kid.

I am still right about the board - only moreso.
Lance or James??

so you really only think 3 or 4 of our team are any good-- it surprises me you've stuck with them so long?????Con Gorozidis wrote:no benny is not god but hes better at playing footy than 90% of the blokes on our list.
and i for one thought this was about playing footy? how naive am i!
he has NOT played football for 18 mths- yes he's run and he's boxed BUT that's not entering a contest at pace or with an opponent
he has not even endeavoured to play football in a competitive nature despite having the opportunity
he has never openly addressed his issues in question and answer mode
he has not exhibited behaviours which would lead many to see a change- there do not appear to be any- volounteering, charity, helpline offers.
yes he was a champion - he may well be Good again- But he has NOT been a champion for OVER 2 years-
he missed all of 2008, Most of 2007 and then was injured first or second game back- almost as predicted as he over did it.-
purely on physicality and age there is doubt.

Huge Losses
Moved the club to Boganville
Extortion of Members on L2
Now the Cousins debacle.
Told you but you wouldn't listen.
