Ken Whiffen today and back in 1996
ST KILDA head trainer Ken Whiffen has been awarded AFL life membership after 44 years of loyal service, but he almost didn’t reach his milestone season.
At the end of last season he decided to retire and would no longer be involved if it wasn’t for the intervention of players and officials at the club.................................

Kenny is the club. He is a LEGEND. He was on the ground in the last seconds of the 66 GF delivering a message to all the players from the coach. It was dramatic stuff - the Saints were about to make history. The coach was frantic, the players exhausted but desperate - what was the message being delivered at this crucial time by Kenny. I asked him one big night at a club function a few years back. I asked " Kenny, what were you telling the players at this crucial stage of the game, what words of wisdom from the great Allan Jeans were being delivered at this time??" His answer.....
" DON'T STUFF IT UP!!"
" DON'T STUFF IT UP!!"
I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

5 prelims in 7 years. 40 wins from 49 games.
2009 and 2010 were 2 of the 5 best years ever by the St.Kilda FC.
Thanks for all your efforts Saints.

learn some respect buddy, especially when referring to people such as kenny...
"The old guy"... is NOT a put down. It's a description, nothing more or less.
A perfect example of an innocent remark turned on it's head by political correctness. Ignore it ralphysaints35.
Who's this guy? A another self appointed mod?Pilgram wrote:Posts x 2 deleted...very very poor taste

Ignore the fools ralphysaints35. I also have a personal stalker, thankfully he's dropped off in the last week. Probably because I ignored the idiot. I don't suggest it, but if you looked thru my posts over the last 6 months, you'll see the same avatar pop up to reply with in minutes.
Some people have no life.
And that's coming from a fairly old bloke!

dont worry about it ralphy, there are some people on here who have very small brains/if any at all and in the off season have nothing to write about so they just bag people....ralphysaints35 wrote:I was Treating him with respect . i was simply reminding myself of who he was. cause i could have had the right personSaints Premiers 2008 wrote:are you 12??? or 11???ralphysaints35 wrote:is that the old guy thats like 83 and is always at training??

Personally I didn't think anything SP said was too bad (this time), but why has it become the 'in' thing to stick up for ralphy all the time, he's a big boy, I'm sure he can take an insult or two, and TBH I think he would rather it than everbody trying to baby it, notice how he hasn't replied to this thread again, and IIRC he never replied to the 'in defense of Ralphy' thread either...

sorry mods, i dont see what the problem is.
every good team has an accomplised sniffer in the sheds.
there's nothing wrong with having a good sniff .. it's natural.
it's part of the culture and it's great!
it's healthy to have a man around who knows what he is doing and whom is not shy to offer friendly advice on the sniff.
the best thing about Kenny is that he's not afraid to ask questions like;
"chinese or japanese rice wine in that stir fry mate?" or
"is that marmelaide again Champ?"
recognising another man's appetite as healthy is helpful.
it's showing another man that you care.
one may say that having an accomplished sniffer in the sheds is absolutely vital.
it doesn't hurt.
a bloke with a nose like a beagle and a brain like a roman conquerer is to a football team what einstien was to science.
sniffing is an artform.
more than an artform, sniffing with good comment, is inspirational.
any team without an accomplished sniffer places themselves at a distinct disadvantage.
end rant.
