We're the champions from Sandy
Mates in everything we do
We will show them how to play the game
We will win the premiership too
You beauties

We're the team they call the zebras
Steadfast, loyal, strong and true
When its rough we just get tough
We're never known to falter
We are the yellow black and blue
You beauties

(Sung to the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandee)

Well st_Trav, if you can't that in you head to the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandy, I'm really glad you're no longer (if you ever were) a muso.

And I'm tone deaf and can't play a note, but can quite easily sing the Sandy Song or whatever it's called.

If you sing it to the tune to the Hawthorn song and drop the last "you beauties" it fits OK.

Still think "Oh when the Zebras go marching in" would have been good.

Conjures up a great mental image :D

But not a vivid as "See the Zebras fly up, .. up"
Or "We're Ben Cousins - we're flying high".

Anyway, who has ever seen a blue and yellow Zebra ?

Hopefully we will get to sing the song again...sooner than later..

The nickname came from a writer in the Sporting Globe I think called Jim Blake...back in the 30's or 40's....said something along the lines of Sandringham running like a herd of zebras over the opposition....

maybe he was colour blind...yet to see a yellow and black zebra with a touch of blue in it...

I aleays thought these were the lyrics:
Sandy
Tonight must last us forever
Forever we say goodnight and go home
But you know me very well
And I know you
You can tell me goodnight
We've been holding on so tight
We're afraid to let it go
Shake it loose
we both could use the ride
Here's another mess I got myself in
And when you touch me
you ain't helpin'
Sandringham.

I believe the Sandy song goes as follows:

Stranded at the drive in
Branded a fool
what will they say Monday at
school

Sandy can't you see
i'm in misery
We made a start
Now we're apart
There's nothin' left for me
Love has flown
All alone I sit
And wonder wh - yi-yi-yi
Oh why you left me
Oh Sandy

Oh Sandy someday
When High School is done
Somehow someway
Our two worlds will be one
In heaven forever
And ever we will be
Oh please say you'll stay
Oh Sandy

Sandy my darlin'
You hurt me real bad
You know it's true
But baby you gotta believe me
when I say I'm helpless without
you
(sung)
Love has flown
All alone I sit
I wonder why-yi-yi-yi
Oh why
You left me
Oh Sandy
Sandy Sandy
Why-yi-yi-yi

Oh Sandy

25 minutes to make a name for yourself like you've never made before.

I know the junior side East Sandy has this:

Oh we're from SANDRINGHAM
A fighting fury
We're from Sandringham
In any weather you can see us with a grin
risking head and shin
when we're behind, well never mind,
we'll fight and fight to win.
Oh we're from SANDRINGHAM
We'll never weaken till the final siren goes
we're like the zebras of old,
we're strong and we're bold
Oh we're from Sandy, Yellow and Black!
Oh we're from Sandringham.

In my memories of visiting the zoo, the zebras seemed quite timid to me. :?
