Grandstands down by 1st February 2009

Post: # 672140Post SAINTLY73 »

It's official. Grandstands are coming down at Linton St and need to be down by 1st February next year.

I'm going down myself to get a piece before the other vultures get in first.

They should be protected as a sacred site.

But if not - I would like a piece.
I already have some dirt/gravel from the A-pit.

I have a plank a several nuts and bolts that I collected last year, when it was obvious the stands were going to have to come down.

If the club was smart they would do what the MCC did with the old Smokers stand 4 years ago.

They offered pretty much all the seats and other fittings for sale.
Had a huge auction one Sunday.
Must have made a packet.

I would love to have one of those bench seats for the backyard.

But I can guess what will happen.
The club will lack the initiative to see it as a marketing opportunity.
And they will seal up the stands because of OH&S issues and prevent us from "liberating" what rightly belongs to us.

So it will all be destroyed by the bulldozers and dumped as rubbish.
Thanks Archie.
Thanks Pitsy Titsy.

Enrico, if you have recently seen the state of the stands at Moorabbin, you would realise that there is no way the bits and pieces could be sold other than as rubble.

The seats in the Huggins stand looked OK at the interstate match telecasts this year.
I admit the last time I sat in the old stand was at training 2 years ago.
And the front rows were in poor shape.
But the more protected seats up the back looked OK.

Anyway I want one for their historical significance rather than as a robust piece of furniture.

I love how people write stuff like "Its Official" without actually telling us officially where it was said officially

So..assuming its only the main grandstand thats coming down, exactly what are the players going to use as changing rooms and gym after the Xmas break?

Westaway will probably truck in some portable buildings and then tell the players the club is on it's way to matching the Lexus centre and other elite training facilities.....

is there any way that someone from Saintsational could talk to the club about removing some of it?

Maybe we could sell bits on this site? As in grab 50 bits and sell for 10 bucks a pop.

we could then donate proceeds straight to club or use to keep site up and running and to sponsor players.

I would love some for a future bar or framed at some point. Am prepared to pay but live in London and can't get down there.

Is anyone prepared to help out?

The only thing that is OFFICIAL is that there are council elections in a couple of weeks.
The councillors want to create the illusion that they care about residents interests rather than their own politcal careers.
The demand that the grandstand come down is OFFICIOUS.
The council having forced the club to move can now be expected to demand the club carry out as much remediation work as they can be forced into.

I would buy a piece of wood, nail, screw or even a splinter as a memento. My Dad was one of the blokes that helped fund the shift from the Junction Oval to Linton Street. Unbeknown to my mother, he mortgaged the family home to get some extra money for the venture. That is how come I have this membership medallion numbered 007.

More to do with Frankston elections than Kingston elections.

It was the Saints that came to the party, not arm twisting from Kingston.

I beat the official announcement by 24hr. Not bad.

I have "Asked Archie" if there are any plans to sell the seats to fans.

Response should be in Saints Central.

Woah, luckily I read this first. I was just about to do the same!

I look forward to seeing his response once the question is approved.

Well, all posts to AA are moderated, so I doubt that the same question would get up twice.

Would be really surprised if I was the first to ask him.
