St Kilda in Scotland - and the t-shirt!

Today I discovered that a t-shirt with the words "St Kilda" and a map of the Islands in Scotland are available, but only through the National Trust of Scotland, and sold only in St Kilda supposedly.

The t-shirt is collared and good quality - I saw it today worn by a bloke who has been there (I told him to go to Moorabbin and buy some of our club gear to take back to Scotland with him!!!).

So if anyone is going to St Kilda, perhaps buy up a few t shirts for us Sainters back in Oz please!

I've always thought the team should do a pre season trip to St Kilda and do a bit of building recovery- we have a few builders and developers in team..

The story of how I became a Saint is that I come from Scotland and my Dad had a job restoring lighthouses throughout Scotland. He had to cancel the job on the Isle of St.Kilda because our Immigration came through to come to Australia. It seemed only natural that I should follow St.Kilda in Australia.

I do find it interesting that so many supporters do not know our correct name and call us Saint Kilda. There has never been a Saint called Kilda and have a link here from Wikipedia about St.Kilda and the origins of the name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Isles

Sorry, my mistake. Habbit from going to Catholic school's. I just find it funny that club legends like Nathan Burke call us Saint Kilda and not St Kilda(Sint Kilda)

A Brisbane Lions supporter (sorry to say a mate of mine) and I went down to the Dome to watch the Saints flog the Lions all those years ago. (That was the record breaking match 139 points or thereabouts.... Yips 11 goals).

Anyway, he was walking down the street and asked for directions from this homeless lass drinking wine out of a brown paper bag. In his ocker Aussie accent he asks "Excuse me maam' do you know how to get to SAINT KILDA)?"

She responds in her screeching voice, "SAINT KILDA? There is no such thing as f****** SAINT KILDA.... There is nothing SAINT about it.... Its called St.Kilda you idiot".

heheheh, as if losing by 139 points isn't enough hehehe sucker.

well i might have been a bit savage on seaford. i did grow up there. perhaps it will prove a masterstroke, but i would have preferred slap bang in the middle of frankston.

It really p1sses me off when fans put a full stop in St Kilda...

It's as if some fans don't really know or are just ignorant...

B4E has often referred to it as St. Kilda, whilst boasting of tradition

makes me laugh sometimes, when some rant on tradition and yet can't get it right...

if I was ignorant, my nic would be St. Fidelius...

I was going to post about how Mick Thomas used to have a song called 'Isle Of St Kilda' that he's occasionally play live, but not going to bother after reading above tripe... Although I just did....

The Evacuation

Gradually the St Kildans lost their self- sufficiency, relying on imports of food, fuel and building materials and furnishing for their homes. In 1852, 36 people emigrated to Australia, and population decline began (many of the emigrants died en-route, but a few settled in Melbourne, and to this day a suburb of the city is called St Kilda). The islanders felt increasingly isolated from the outside world and disliked particularly the lack of regular communications.

Seabirds were the mainstay of the St Kildan diet.

actually those colours look suspiciously familiar.
