Tom Hislop
Don't know if there has already been a post on this.........but
What do people think of this kid.
I heard he has attitude issues but can really play.
I remember wanting him in the draft he went in at the time.

I don't believe we should become the home of bad boys who can play footy. I just don't think we have the boot-camp style personnel needed for that.
Guys like Clayton Collard (and probably Tom Hislop too) who were highly rated in their draft year are generally picked up by another club, even if as a rookie, just to see if a change of scenery would help.

its obvious hislop is going to play football somewhere in the afl next year
what i don't understand is matthew knights' and his list management people's thinking
just because at 18-19 his isn't what the club wants instantaneously as a perfect citizen they cut him?? don't they really want to put the time and effort into him so he becomes a truly elite 200 gamer for the club???
if all young players were cut for being immature headcases then there wouldn't be too many left
he just wreeks of the fall guy for most young footballers who are still immature as hell...
its immature almost from essendon...they can't all draft bacher houli's who apparently are the perfect role model despite looking bloody average on the field

He's not exactly your typical delisted player though, is he?derby Street wrote:Every player that get's delisted from an opposition club is suddenly a star - yet the ones we delist are duds.
We should have delisted 30 and picked up the stars everyone else cut, once again the Saints have missed a golden opportunity.

It's typical round here that a delisted player is really a gun...Beekay wrote:He's not exactly your typical delisted player though, is he?derby Street wrote:Every player that get's delisted from an opposition club is suddenly a star - yet the ones we delist are duds.

But if he is a good young player and he has justified his draft selection number through on field efforts, then we should have a look at him.
Have a look at Port Adelaide for belief in players carrying on for a nice career elsewhere.

Lets see:
Lappin loved the drink while at the Saints..too much so... IIRC was even done for drink driving. Went to the Blues to becomea very good consistent player.
Hall showed promise at the Saints...but became a supertstar of the competition at the Swans.
GTrain....loved a beer...too much...but kept in under control...just.
On the other hand:
S Lawrence...lots of talent to bea good hard player....but kept leading team-mates astray at two AFL Clubs.
Rod Owen had the potential to be star....but continued his off foeld bad habits in the AFL after he left us...and elshere since..
The point???
Having "issues' is not in iteself sufficient reason to rule a player out. But it can be...if he refuses to face his own demons and deliver on the football field and club environs...
PS There are also lots of "goody two shoes" in AFL ranks that never went anywhere (and many who did).

I don't disagree....Otiman wrote:Issues within themselves, are generally isolated incidents. Once you get a number of teammates, the behaviour will snowball and mob mentality can get the whole group into trouble.
If you had all of the bad boys in the AFL at the one club, you would have to be Robert Harvey to get around it.
But I think the club needs to look at every possible option.
Then choose what is best for us.

There is a whole thread about him here: http://www.saintsational.com/forum/view ... 24&start=0
i advocate picking him up. His achievements are here:
Don't know much about him except for the fact that he goes hard at it, and was highly rated coming into the draft.
Was a former AIS-AFL Academy player: Tom Hislop Tas Medium inside midfielder who is a strong player at the contest. Can go forward and kick goals and has great awareness. From Burnie in Tasmania.
http://www.afl.com.au/News/NEWSARTICLE/ ... ewsId=6877
Kevin Sheahan's analysis:
Tom Hislop - Tasmania, 185cm, 85kg, Burnie
Medium midfielder/forward, Hislop averaged 20 possessions and five marks in the championships. He also had the most tackles (24) in division two, highlighting his strong aggressive style. Champion Data player rankings had him score 478 points - one less than Vic Metro's Tom Hawkins
